went up for an evening session on the trout, first time on the Wye trouting. arrived 7is to a small rise, which grew to a good rise at about 9ish, only trouble was I could not touch a thing changing flies down to a size 18, but then noticed that the rise might not have been a trout rise, or better to say dace, shad, all mixed ,
Sadly to say nothing caught

a bit cooler than last night but still nice. Arrived about 7 walked up to the chapel run fish rising caught the first one no bother, 9inches, then I could not catch anything nor my fishing partner, went on to the wets, still nothing then hooked a Shad, strange indeed, we sat and watched , My mate said these are not trout they could be dace small chub or something , and sure enough next fish was a dace , two other trout followed but that was enough so it was a good rise just not trout
! dace and 1 shad

No luck with the salmon fly but caught a nice trout in The Maddox. A good fish was showing under the power lines at dusk, as well as several others at the very top of the beat.

V warm sultry evening with no wind at all. Reasonable evening rise and a plethora of biting insects on the wing ! 3 BT caught but further problems with the bull in the access field which saw me having to wade across the river lower down, walk up the opposite bank then back across above the higher limit of his electric fence. The reverse procedure at 11pm after the rise had ended was dicey in the gloaming but less so than risking the bull !!

Fished above the bridge and the water looked fairly low but still good.
Moved along very carefully ,watched and waited, cast a variety of the usual productive flies prospectively into juicy spots and runs but nowt, nothing ( apart from a couple or so greedy tiddlers having a go ) and no sign of fish and no real fly too, even late in to the evening.
A proper conundrum to me still as such good water for it !
Still it is lovely and peaceful up there for sure , the lovely Beacons in the distance and think I will take the nymphs box next time or maybe even micro streamers.
Oh ,yes, be advised theres a bull in the field there too ! Snuck up on me he did all quiet like along with his lady friends coming down for a drink! I could have poked him with the rod tip almost and he seemed more bemused than angry at the fool in front of him but I still dont trust 'em and its quite amazing how quick you can wade over rocks that under normal circumstance have you stumbling and sliding a bit !
