The first-time fishing Edw Aberedw – although we had some decent rain a few days before the river seemed a little low. Looking over the bridge before we started our session we saw no fish at all – nothing moving, and it was like that for most of the day.
I had 4 very small WBT to a mix of Hares Ear and a small brown dry.
Even though there was a lack of fish that did not spoil a great days fishing.

A really enjoyable day's fishing even there weren't many fish to be seen and those we did see were all small, in the 3 to 4 inch range.
I had one small brownie and missed a few more on a Goldbead Hare's ear.
It was the first time I had fished at Aberedw and only the second time fly fishing a river so a lack of experience may have had a lot to do with (almost) lack of fish.

Another excellent day on the Edw. Started mid morning and fished pretty hard until the evening, covering the full length of the bottom section of the beat. The water was pretty low and very clear, so a stealthy approach was required. The slower areas were very tough to fish due to the water clarity, so I concentrated on the faster pockets, pools, riffles and runs. Setup for most of the day was the Duo, with a simple copper-beaded nymph under a #14 caddis pattern. Dry/nymph ratio was probably 1:5. Fish came pretty steadily throughout the day from most of the likely spots for the conditions. Lots of trout around, but a similar number of salmon parr who were present throughout the stretch and feeding very aggresively. Excellent to see! A massive thanks to the W&U folk for all the work getting this stream out to us anglers, appreciated!

I hadn't fished this stretch of the Edw before so I thought I'd give it a go.
On arrival the river was running a little low and very clear, the weather was warm and cloudy day with very little wind at all.
I started off on the dry and had one very early on, this prompted me to stay on the dry for probably a bit too long.
When I eventually switched to the nymph I started catching, taking fish from the faster runs.
I have to say I found it very difficult trying to catch fish from the slower pools, even with a very cautious approach once the fly hit the water it sent the trout racing round the pool.
I saw far more than I caught, but still had a nice day on this very picturesque river.

The river was surprisingly low and clear, but the weather thankfully a bit cooler. Nothing much seen rising and not much fly life but did see a few Mayfly. Around a dozen Trout mainly to small nymph on Tenkara rod. Best Trout about 12 inches most nearer 6. Huge amounts of small Trout and parr attacking the nymph in every pool and run.

The best small stream fishing I have ever experienced. I lost track of the exact number of trout I caught, but I can confidently say it was the most in any day of my fishing carer.
Most fish were 5 to 7 inches with the occasional larger trout. All were in perfect condition.
All but one trout were caught on bead head GRHE (size 14 or 16).
At about 4pm the sun came out and there was a hatch (quite large greeny yellow upwings, I'm no entomologist), and I caught one fish on a similar looking dry fly.
The most effective method was a sort of upstream nymphing with a retrieve slightly faster than the current to help aid bite detection, but due to the size of the river, tactics were dependent on the amount of room to cast.
Definitely worth the three and a half hour drive

River was a bit on the low side ,very difficult to navigate stretches of the water as a fence and a lot of cut down trees to get over , making some stretches impossible to get at.Only a few touches from small trout.
