River still slightly high after heavy rain 3-4 days earlier. This restricted accessible areas suitable for trotting. Banks in may places are overgrown limiting access and large stretches are inaccessible because of steep banks and thick willows lining the banks. At summer river levels, some of these would be accessible by wading up or downstream from existing entry points.

I moved around and fished three different swims, near the top, middle and bottom of the beat. Caught chub in each up to 3lbs. Had one lovely 6lb barbel near the top of the beat (just upstream of the orchard).

Foam on the river, looked like some form of pollution. I have never seen that before in all my years fishing on the Wye.

Beat:Honddu Pandy

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:1

The Honddu was running lower than I expected. I was thinking that after the rain we have had recently that the levels might have been up a bit, but no. Crystal clear, and still with a good low to it. First cold day of the year and a few crazy downpours, but mostly pleasant. The beat is pretty enclosed by hedges/trees, so the weather didn’t really affect the fishing or experience.

A great few hours working my way up the beat. Not lots of action, lost a couple but managed to net four. The last was was of a decent size, probably 12-14”. Fished with a Klinkhammer indicator and gold bead nymph. One fish took the dry.

Lovely days fishing, surprised to see the caravan occupancy allowed to fish the stretch, which was a shame.
8 barbel 15 chub between us.

Fishing Passport Note : It is mentioned on the web page that the lower field of the beat is let to caravans, so exclusivity is not guaranteed for that field but this usually happens during the summer months.

Area:Upper Wye

Beat:Craig Llyn

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:1

Plenty of flow, wading was a bit treacherous at times. Not much going on until lunch time, a good hatch of caddis made for good dry fly on the shallows middle of beat. Always a good day out on this beat this plenty of scrambling around and no road noise.
