Great to be out on such a nice day 16deg and .82m.
I fished both wet and dry march brown for trout and hooked the same fish at exactly the same spot an hour either side of midday. frustrating not to land a fish of around pound and a half but happy I selected the right fly.
John fished the double hander on intermediate and Usk Grub from Upper Rock through Rockpool to the Chine with no takes.

In contrast I fished today 29th in dull and wet conditions for hour and a half at 10deg and .67m to no effect.
Gave up at 14.30 when temp dropped sharply in N/NW strong breeze with no fly life to be seen. Disappointing.

2 x trout 15 and 18 inches, Deer's Hair Emerger. With the Trostrey gauge at 1ft 4 inches, this was really at salmon fishing height so extensive wading was difficult. However, after a quiet morning during which a single fish hooked on spiders was lost at the net, March browns began to hatch off in numbers at midday and the trout reacted for about 30 minutes. Two more fish lost and a very nice brace on Bob Wyatt's DHE. Everything quiet again by 1.15.

Didn’t see a single fish. Nothing. Very disappointing. Was chatting g to farmer who told me there are otters on this stretch of the stream so maybe this has made an impact on the fish. Also lost a lot of flies do to all the over hanging branches. This will only get worse as the leaves grow in though Spring.

A very bright day greeted me at this now truncated beat. I started on the flats upstream nymphing to no avail, closely watched by the sentry of the mill.
The river was quiet until 1 pm when a hatch bought fish to the surface, managed to bag a nice 1.5 lb trout on a dry , much to the joy of the spectator on the aqueduct. The rises soon stopped but I managed 3 more trout on MB spiders. Another typical spring day, was hoping the warmth may bring more sustained hatches and rises, but it wasn't to be.
Still it was a beautiful setting on a fantastic day.
All fish returned.

River at a perfect height and running gin-clear. Bright and sunny (14C) with a cold breeze from the east, which got stronger as the day went on. Teased a couple of small BT from the shallows at the top of the beat on PTN. Around mid-day a sporadic hatch of March Brown began, lasting about half an hour. Took one from the tail of the lower pool on a dry MB and missed three other takes. As the cold wind picked up, the action stopped. Called it a day around 15:00 hrs
