River pretty low at about 1m on a generally calm, cloudy, not too windy day until rained off, with some fish still rising at 4.45p.m. Nothing on bugs, a couple on spiders, but virtually all fish taken, risers and non-risers, on a size 16 and 18 pale HE Duck's Dun. Catch returns from a number of outings over recent months indicates a major year class of 9-10" grayling, the first of this significance for some years and doubtless good spawning news from a few years back. Let's hope that the cormorants (three seen yesterday) leave enough to grow on again. Had several 12-13" ladies too, as well as a lovely 17" two pounder. Some stonefly in the morning and some sedges later on plus a few small olives, which is what I suspect the fish were taking in the afternoon.

Water level quite low and very clear. One or two rises (in inaccessible locations!). Fished from 1700 to 1900 on the bottom half of the beat. No luck but still managed to lose a few flies. Think I'll return after a bit more rain.

Only had a couple of hours due to problems on the journey there by road. River very low and heavily over grown on the banks. Met the farmer who said activity in the river a lot lower this year - the evening rise noticeably quieter. A couple of takes but only 1 landed - around 7 inches

Concentrated on the lower half of the beat. River was low and the barbel didn't play ball for much of the day, but at least much of the algae has been cleared by the rainwater.
