Arrived early and fished the hut, raining most of the morning, one small chub and an eel on corn, lost several larger fish, two or three salmon were leaping all morning which was great to see, one of which was a substantial fish. Packed up around 11am but returned to the same swim at 6pm, the fish had definitely switched on, 4 very nice chub to 5lb 8oz and a barbel of 6lb on the last cast of the day, several other barbel hooked but lost. All the evening fish taken on meat.

Quite difficult conditions with frequent showers of much needed rain but river very low. A fair amount of fly life hatching mostly bright yellow bodies. No luck with gold heads so switched to dry even though no rises. Had a few rises to a yellow dry and managed to hook one. Later had two on a small yellow emerger at top of beat. Watched otters playing for ten minutes fifteen yards from me and decided to leave it to the experts!
