Well I did think the incoming rain on Friday and Saturday may be heavy so booked Beacons reservoir , assuming the rivers may be up , but stopped to have a look at the Llynfi at Pontithel, enroute , and it looked superb , slight tinge but great , onwards to the Brecon Beacons . . . . . . . .
Arrived at the reservoir at about quarter to ten , tackled up my Orvis nine foot six weight , and the old girl felt heavy after my two weight stream rod . . . . Rigged up just a team of two , my usual trustee team of brownie wets , that I use a lot here , work very well just in the wave , and today it was drizzly , dank and a good trout wave , a real dirty day , a great day for stillwater brownies . Would be good on Teifi or Bugeilyn today too I should imagine !!!!
Anyway , the usual hotspots , produced some lovely brownies today , and in the first couple of hours had four nice fish to hand , and one long range release , sizes ranged from ten to fourteen inches , gorgeous fish . . . I worked my way round the West side , and picked up a fish in one of the bays , just as it meets the ripple , lovely swirl , and tightened into a cracker . . . . Spot on . . .
Last fish was up by the dam wall , on the dropper , lovely twelve inch Beacons brownie , a really fun four hours here . I did see a maroon Y reg LDV camper van parked in the designated parking area just at the bottom of the dam. Knocked the chappy up who must have been sleeping and asked what he was going to do with the rigged up two beach caster rods !!!!!! "Oh have a look if there s anywhere to fish " . My reply was , don't make out I'm as green as I'm cabbage looking bud !!!!!! And in no certain terms explained that it's permit only / club water , and fly fishing only !!!! He aquiesed , and was polite enough , not a local chap , so perhaps unaware , I did explain that most , if not all waters , be it river or Stillwater are permit or club , and if your fishing without permission or permit , then it's an offence , simples !!!!!! Chant over , I walked round and back up along the eastern bank , and decided to call it a day , as it had been a long old weeks work , and was happy with six lovely brownies , will head to the Edw or Arrow mid week , a nice chill out . . . . . . . . . Back here soon !!!!!

Very disappointing! What could be a fantastic stretch is spoilt by impossible fishing on most of the river. Access all along the river is overgrown and very limited points to get down to the river. Location is fantastic but I wouldn't make plans to travel again for this when my local ‘free’ river offers more.

After the torrential rain yesterday the stream was running quite fast and very discoloured. I was tempted to abandon the day but decided to have a couple of hours( better than gardening!) I managed to catch three wbt around 8inches, in lovely condition all taken on klinkhamer 14 drys. two on rust, one on black.. Saw a kingfisher too. not a bad day considering the conditions.
