Took a friend to fly fish for the very first time. He landed a feisty little brownie with his first cast, managed another 5 during the day and is now hooked! All fish taken on nymphs with just the one falling to a dry. Fish of the day was a fin perfect grayling of around 15 inches. Perfect beat to bring a beginner, easy access, simple wading, a good head of fish and a lovely river bank just to to sit, enjoy lunch and marvel at the Wye.

Disappointing day. The steep path leading down to the fishery is treacherous. Overgrown with brambles is an understatement. Two of us tore our nets as a consequence. I feel you should not have let this fishery. The river was extremely low but that is not avoidable however safely getting to the water without incident is.

Fished the car park end in the morning, plumbed the depth to find it only about 7 inches deep, Lots of fish swimming past and stirring up the silt obviously munching on my hemp and corn free offerings, managed 2 bites but hook did not set, ventured down the deeper end in the afternoon, again, lot's of fish showing but not able to catch anything, no fish caught all day but I was on the edge of my seat all day anticipating catching one of the giant carp swimming around. I would go back but would start off fishing at the deeper end near the oak tree, the fish seemed to like the corn and hemp so would recommend these baits as a starter. Stayed at the three horse shoes 3 miles up the road.. great pub and nice rooms at a fair price.

My first visit to this beat. Although water levels were low judging by the high bank line and exposed gravel it made for fairly comfortable wading, ( with a staff) and fishing. A lovely river to fish and although no trout caught I managed five very nice grayling up to about 17inches about halfway down the beat. The first 'came out of the blue' to a dry size 16 Elk hair sedge and gave me a merry song and dance leaping from the water about 3 times before I had him under control on my light tippet. Just proves that it is worth keeping your flies on/in the water even when confidence starts to wain. Having found one grayling I concentrated on that pool/area hoping that I had found a shoal. Others were caught using a very small pink head tungsten bead shrimp pattern under an indicator and the fish kept getting bigger! Great fun and I plan to return. Thank you.

Fished two sessions, morning and evening in the Woods section. Used 12mm pellets with a long hair to try and avoid the chub. I also ignored the chub pulls, unless they effectively hooked themselves. 4 barbel in the morning and 4 in the evening, all relatively spaced out. I could have caught many more chub, if I had been striking at every pull. Largest barbel a very nice fish at 9lb 3oz. Others all in the 5 - 7 lb range. River seemed to be at about normal summer levels, but was very coloured.

This is a lovely open beat, myself and S.P the other half had an excellent couple of hours, it was her first time on a stream and resulted in her first wild trout on a dry fly and her second.

Great morning, llanddewi meter was reading .125 so fairly showing its bones but plenty of life about and the treat of a kingfisher too.
