Despite plenty of fly life including lots of yellow May duns not many risers. Even a E. danica sailed down unmolested. Lots of birds taking advantage including redstart, wagtails and dippers. Also a family of Mandarin ducks! Gave up on the dries and caught 2 to Klink and dink. Late afternoon numbers of trout began rising in slow featureless water. Good ones too! But so tricky to get to. Battled the undergrowth and trees to finally get one on a small olive( the trout were taking something very small I couldn’t see). Had to leave but I think the evening would have been good. Given the nature of the banks and high vegetation I would say this beat might require some agility and sweat come high summer. Plenty of fish though and lovely to see them.

Back to the lovely Lynfi Dulais and skipped past the lower section of the beat this time and just worked about the top half and up right up to the boundary. Theres lots of cracking run/riffle/pool sequences and you can wade a long ways indeed once in the water but advise wading very very close to the right bank (ie farm side) at the old footbridge at the back of Tregunter farm! Its gotten very deep under there now! Was a bit surprised at how quiet things where though today, very little mayfly on the go , just a few olives here and there and didnt really respond to just prospecting with a dry fly as usually does. Maybe it was that rather cool pesky north wester wind!

Thousands and thousands of micro caddis homes on the rocks and a reasonable scattering of various olives and included some quite large stone clingers ! Great. Water pushing along very nicely indeed , just a tinge of colour and river bed looking very good , for now. Pulled out or pruned back a good number of pesky branches for the next guy up there.
Just the four to hand this afternoon on a para adams or a klink' . Happy with that all things considered, always seems to fish better to on a warm sunny day down here to me fishing a nice juicy foam beetle.

A quick session here this evening to check it out after the winter. Been some changes for sure but nothing drastic and still plenty of good pools and runs. No mayfly spinner but some large gatherings of Brook duns out in the fields in the late evening light ( a lovely sight back lit by the setting sun)but thats where they stayed this evening despite much watching & waiting!

No fish to hand but bumped a few good fish at last light.

Just a lovely place to be with the evening sun along the valley and the Black mountain in the distance and looking forward to a return asap.
