Fishing:Trout (River)

No rising fish, but plenty of surface fly life,so started with a dry fly without any success. Went for a nymph and had a busy afternoon. Conditions were perfect, slight wind giving a ripple on the water and no rain.
Had four trout netted, biggest one about 8 inch, lost about another five. This beat will not be for everyone but if you like small rivers this is a great find . Fished it with a 6 foot 3 weight rod.

Great to be back at Courtfield with a bit of water on, so was hoping for action from Legg Meadow. Slow morning session with Ray taking a barbel first chuck and then nothing until pushing midday when I had a little scrapper that would have struggled to make 2lb. Great to see a few small fish though as it omens well for the future. Rested swims through afternoon and went back at 4pm. I had 3 more barbel in next 3 hours including a 9.13 and Ned managed a chub. Level was still holding up when we left and we were down to return tomorrow for some more.

River well up and coloured made swim selection difficult, not helped by thick weed in many areas. Fished the lower section - whoever named cardiac hill wasn't joking ! Barbel fell to ledgered meat, mainly during the middle of the day. Average size 5 to 7 lbs. Beautiful stretch of river but maybe not at its best in blustery winds and squally showers.

The river was even higher than yesterday when we fished Upper Backney, and most of pegs were impossible to fish.
The 12 Barbel ranged from 6lbs to 10.5 lbs , with an eel of 3lbs. Usual feeder and meat and pellet method used.
