Returning after previous wash off. I could now get in the river which was crucial as the area is heavily banked and the beat is tree lined for almost the entire length. Not really a sniff of anything until late on at last light when I saw a good fish rise in one of the lower pools. I stalked and cast a few times, but to no avail. Left with no fish, but no lost tackle (which under the circumstances was quite the result) Best thing about the evening was the rock band playing in the Monnow studio alongside the river. Don't know who they were, but they'll go far. As for me, I'll stick to the more mountainous geography of the Upper Wye from now on.

Spent the day on this beautiful stretch of the Wye.
Boat traffic was very busy but dropped right off after 3 in the afternoon.
The river was still very low and sluggish in most places but found a spot through the wooded section where I managed to catch 4 barbel with the biggest approximately 6 pounds as well as losing a couple of others. Also had one decent chub of about 3lbs as well as a number of 'chublets' and an eel.
All fish were taken on meat 'rolled' through the swim.
Would definitely return as it was just a pleasure to spend the day in such pleasant surroundings

Eventually got to the river via diversions around Abergavenny - roads closed etc, hope it was not too serious. Monnow as low as I have seen it, and very slimy. Landed 5 at 7" - 10", on either a small GRHE or para midge. The para attracted interest everywhere from small parr - if they all survive it will mean many fish!!

Our second day on this beat. Slightly cooler and mostly overcast but still lots of weed coming through. We tried several swims at either end of the beat with the 2 barbel caught from the top end.
