Great location for fishing. I had 7 grayling and 1 brown trout - 2 grayling fishing a duo, 4 grayling and 1 brown trout to French nymphing, and 1 grayling to dry fly. Found this beat very inaccessible due to the bankside vegetation, barbed wire fencing. For a stretch of river with a mile long beat, there isn't much actual fishing available.

The river had settled after rising the day before and looked spot on, unfortunately the fish didn't think so and apart from one run on meet that the chub/barbel left the hook in the weed that was it. Tried 3 swims and all usual baits, however a nice tranquil day and no canoe problems.

Only downside was whoever fished the middle field swim left 10ft of line in the bushes which i tripped on and nearly went in, it only took me a few seconds to pull out, roll up and stick in my bag, why couldn't they do that.

This is a fantastic spot and I really enjoyed fishing here. No pressure or traffic of any kind. Had at least 10 takes off the dry fly through out the day, Purple Haze worked particularly well for that as well as the parachute adams. Would have been even more fun if I were quicker to set the hook. Also one on the gold head pheasant tail nymph. Both netted fish were WBT. Can't wait to return.

River running high making wading difficult. No takes in this short session this time unfortunately.

Beat:Lower Tarrell

No. of Anglers:1

Spent a short lunch break on the Tarrell. River rising rapidly with torrential rain. This seemed to get the fish into a feeding mood - 2 x 9 inchers in quick succession, a bigger fish bumped then a magnificent specimen of 18 inches, in prime condition. All fell to a 2.5mm jig nymph fished duo style.

N.B If you are unfamiliar with this river, do not attempt fish it in heavy rain - it can become extremely dangerous within minutes.
