Fished this beat a few times, and it’s a stunner. Much better access under the current ownership! As expected conditions were difficult. The river was low and clear, with little flow. We managed 1 stunning Barbel of 9lb 4oz and a big Chub. On the whole a great day.

A wonderful but very hot day. The river was pretty low and clear. To be honest I lost count of the number of chub I caught, they came steadily throughout the day. The barbel were hard work but I had a couple on the float and then at dusk I caught 6 in 30 minutes!

Our first visit to this fishery, so given the conditions, made a donation in the church offertory box and walked the bank before unloading the car. Felt that the fish were likely to be in the faster, oxygenated water of the Church Stream and settled there. It became apparent that huge rafts of weed, both surface and subsurface were going to be problematic so swapped to trotting. A couple of chub resulted before the arrival of the canoes. We clearly hadn't considered that the very narrow, fast flowing stretch, was the only water available to the canoes. Later a pair of kayak's beached on the island. From one, a middle aged gent disappeared into the trees to perform his ablutions. He reappeared, walked to the middle of the stream, dropped his shorts and proceeded to clean his backside, charming. To round off a perfect day, as we drove back towards Backney Upper at approx 10.30pm, we passed the vehicle of the "night shift" from the previous day, parked up and empty. No doubt ensconced in their swim and preparing to fish the most productive period free of charge!

Fished 8-10pm. Unsurprisingly given the weather, not a lot of activity led to a blank.

The river was low and clear and the weather was exceptionally hot. With the river as low as this there were only a very few swims which were fishable. We opted to fish the section downstream of the footbridge which seemed to offer the best combination of depth and flow. Clumps of floating streamer weed being washed downriver made it very hard work to present the bait. The combination of the the heat, low water levels, limited choice of swims and streamer weed made the day a bit of a struggle. The canoeists and swimmers all kept a sensible distance and did not disturb our day.

Really tough fishing, but managed to winkle out a Chub late morning. Fishing showing through the afternoon and evening but really put off by the hot bright conditions.
Disappointing that a stretch charging this much has so little accessible water along it's length. Even with the river at a more usual level then I can imagine netting fish being a real issue.

I fished the bottom pool with feeder and pellet and had 18 barbel with one special fish of 9.6lb, a real brute as most of the fish are in the 1 - 3lb mark , Ian fished off second cribe with the same method we both felt we should have fished the float and would have caught more , canoes were more than ever and have never seen the water that low.
