Despite the bleak forecast, the rain held off for us, and we found the River looking very good. First couple of fish were caught using nymphs fished upstream, but then in the afternoon large numbers of flies hatching brought them to the top, so we persevered with dries and were rewarded with some good-sized fish of around 1.5 lbs - all in good condition and all returned.

Cold temperatures during most of the day (7-8 deg C) with very little contact with any fish, late warmth and a drop in the northerly wind brought some fish to the surface especially on the bottom end of the beat near the house.

Cold wind and air temp of 7 deg C. Some fish showing away from the shore but the onshore wind made reaching them difficult. Despite a lot of effort we blanked so we moved to the Usk at Ashford House.
