So, glorious 16th June arrives. Unfortunately the fishing was not so glorious. Arrived at 5am. River looked real good. A little low and clear but well fishable. I have fished this stretch a few times now and had some amazing days and a few iffy ones. Unfortunately today was to be an iffy one.
It was around 3 hours in before the first bite which turned out to be a 2lb chub closely followed by another. It was then another 3 hours before the first Barbel arrived for my son, then he had another on the next cast. Both about 5lbs. We thought this was it and the fish had finally moved in. Not so.
We really struggled all day just to get bites. Using feeder tactics, pva bags on the lead, all manor of baits on the hook and varying the presentation. We also donned the chest waders and had a couple of hours trotting which produced a couple more chub and a lost Barbel.
This is a cracking stretch, and I am sure very soon someone will hit it right and have a cracking day. Unfortunately it was not today. I will be back soon to seek vengeance.

I enjoyed myself here so much last week that I came back for more. Seven fish 6"-11", all to a Parachute Adams from the pools and slower stretches. Missed and lost many more. Another thoroughly entertaining session on this beautiful and varied Arrow beat.

Fished this beautiful stream again it really is like a different world down in the gorge. Tried nymphs in the surprisingly deep pools and gutters 2 small trout fell to black magic nymphs. Exited via the footpath up from the old bridge which was easier than hiking all the way to the end of the beat.

Great stream, perfect dry fly water sunken down banks and overhanging trees make it feel very peaceful. Took a while to work out the hatch in the end all trout fell to a size 20 elk hair caddis, a few mayflys also about suspect there is a good hatch here. Best of the trout was about 12in although I disturbed what I estimate to be a 2lb fish in a pool at the top of the beat. One note is that just past the caravan site there is a section where trees overgrown the stream, preceded by a very deep hole that you need to pass as a tree has fallen on one side making it impossible to pass, got up to the limit of my chest waders before I chickened out. Had to exit here and climb a fence to get round and back in. Overall perfect wild stream and don't miss out the caravan sit section there were loads of fish rising in the pools and runs below it.
