Started at 12 noon. Lots of missed takes to dry fly. Lost three that came off before landing. At 6:15pm took a 12" WBT by the adventure playground under a tree overhang on the far bank. 7:45pm 6"WBT in the pool opposite the garden of the opposite house. Both fish took a #16 winged and hackled Greenwell's Glory. Fine day some cloud, some sun.

First day back fishing after over 10 years away! Dry fly only and waited until 8.30pm before throwing a line out. What a great little stretch of water this is. Opposite the campsite and upstream about 300m I found a gap in the trees and waited patiently for movement! Plenty of mayfly about but stuck with a little brown homemade fly. This worked instantly with a string of 3 smaller fish of around a pound or so. Returned these back for another day. Continued at the same point and at the maximum of my cast there were some bigger fish feeding, the hunt was on! I caught another little one of about a pound and a half then just before it turned pitch black I struck a biggy! Line snapped after a 10 minute fight but luckily he was over the net. One of the biggest trout I've ever caught on the Usk of 4.5lbs. Great bit of fishing and I shall be returning.
Thank you.

Dry fly only. Went upstream of the bridge opposite the caravan park and waited till around 9pm before making a cast. First 4 were around a pound and a half so I returned them. Just before dark I cast into the main stream as there were fish feeding and hooked my biggest trout off the usk. 4.5lbs and in great condition. Really pleased and will certainly return. Thank you.

21 x trout 6-10 inches, Rusty Klinkhammer. I should think the mayfly is not too far away - there are a few around already.

A beautiful day on this lovely beat. Warm and sunny with a slightly cool downstream breeze occasionally getting In the way. Fished from 11.00 am to 16.00, and concentrated on the stretch between the canal bridge and the weir. There are several pools which, with the river at this height, offer relatively easy wading and delightful fishing. The flies were coming off all day, small black, medium olives and something larger. I am not an expert, but I was able to fish with the dry fly to rising fish. Two at about 1.5 pounds, four between 10 and 12 inches. Quite a few more missed at the rise and a couple hooked but lost. Parachute Adams, size 16 and a blue klink worked fine.
I shall be back to explore the river above the bridge and below the weir. There is more than enough water here for a good day's fishing.
