Bright sunny and hot, water low and gin clear so not easy but good response to long line (French) nymphing. Surprisingly sparse hatch, few LDO,a few March brown and very few rises even later in the day. However, no complaints with 10 trout all taken on a small black tungsten head nymph. All a good size and largest to 14 ins.

10 Trout

Lovely sunny day but cold wind blowing upstream. Only 1 rise seen all afternoon despite sporadic hatches. Nil caught.

First visit to Goodrich Court to find lovely fly pools and really well kept banks which must be possibly the best on the Wye. Was given good advice on the pools by Mick the ghillie which was very helpful but with bright sun and lack of a run no fish but a very enjoyable day. Will be visiting again soon.

Fish returned. Bright day with river low and clear. Nothing rising at all despite a trickle of olives hatching through the day.

2 Trout

Returned. Very bright and river very low and clear. I was only able to stay until 4pm and suspect that evening may have been more productive. Fished a mixture of nymph or dry depending on the water. Tough day's fishing but lovely beat to be on never the less.

1 Trout

Fine warm weather. A steady hatch of fly all day, mainly olives. Moved two good trout in stretch above the mouth of the Cilieni which came to dry fly. Only fished the lower beat. Very little surface activity. Water fairly low and clear.

No fish were caught, no rising trout at all but a sensational setting with stunning views. Water was quite low and gin clear. Quite challenging conditions (trees etc.) for a novice like me but absolutely loved the few hours away from it all.
A few lessons perhaps are required. . . does anybody know anyone local to Cheltenham that would give some tuition?

Nil return having 'blanked'. Also nil return for Wednesday. 15/04/2015, 4 fish ticket purchased at Garw Nant dispensor. Also nil return for previous 'on line' booking Thursday 9/04/15 2 x 4 fish tickets. Therefore 3 x nil returns in three visits.
Today was better though. 2 x 4 fish tickets booked on line 24/04/15. Bagged up with 4 fish on each ticket. Undoubtedly because of stocking on Wednesday. Fish were fresh and in excellent condition.

8 Trout

Quite a lot of fish showing. Maybe they liked the shaded conditions as it was very sunny. Caught one of 1¼lb on a dry fly - small March Brown, over a rising fish. Hooked two others about the same size on downstream nymph, but I had been advised to use a 3lb cast, and they both broke me. Soon returned to 5lb for fishing below the surface.

Beautiful day on a beautiful beat - but bright sunshine didn't help. No sign of any fish. Rivers levels seemed good. Fished all pools with fly throughout the day. At least a dozen or more canoes passed by & plenty of swan activity didn't help!
