The river was at a pretty perfect height. The banks have been trimmed back to make access easier. The weather was far too glorious and the sun was beating on the water. We didn't real feel the conditions were right but the water did look particularly fishy. We fished fly through all the pools during the course of the day, interrupted for a while by canoeists - who were generally polite and thoughtful. Not a fish was seen all day but the optimistic hope lives on. Nil return.

Difficult few hours on the Lugg today. Bright sun and low crystal clear water meant creeping very slowly and casting on my knees for much of the time. Managed to winkle out 3 trout each one 6 inches like peas in a pod on a very small PTN but had to work very hard for them. Must of spooked at least a dozen more of a similar size trying to get close enough to cast without them seeing me first but not easy!! Still it was a lovely place to be and I do enjoy a challenge!

8 x trout 6-12 inches, 2 x out of season grayling around 12 inches, size 16 Deer Hair Sedge.
A cold start, then hot later, bright sun all the time with an upstream wind, water low and clear. It's all getting a bit difficult in this very bright weather and not much was hatching except a few grannom through the morning. Fish were prepared to come up in the fast runs at the heads of pools.
