Fishing:Trout (River)

Hot day with the river very low, fished in the gutters by the railway bridge using a long leader and small bead headed nymph. The Grayling were all taken from the same run between 14" and 18" long. All fish returned.
Stayed at the friendly Cammarch Hotel, another enjoyable break in Wales fishing on the Irfon.

Beautiful sunny day and multiple fish caught throughout on nymphs, dries and wets. Most fish were quite small, up to 6 inches, but a few larger grayling up to 2lb and a trout around 1.5lb provided good sport.

Second day of two days. Fished the Boat Pool again and river appeared to have risen a little following an overnight thundery downpour but was dropping. Caught fish throughout the day but had to wait a long time between bites. My father caught a nice 9lb 13oz barbel, using the feeder and a long hook link, very close to his first double on the Wye, maybe next time. I moved up to the wood crib late afternoon and caught a barbel just under double. A very hot humid day and difficult conditions but enjoyable. The access is excellent, a few snags to contend with but will be fishing this stretch again.

This was a 'wind down day' after fishing the Wye for six days. Checking out of digs and the journey home meant we fished just about five hours. The day turned into a nature watch due to lack of action. A family of swans gave us some entertainment and we saw the usual kingfisher but most interesting was a couple of egrets which are not exactly common in England and aren't those azure blue damsel flies beautiful. Anyway after about three hours I finally got a bite from a nice chub followed by another. Both were about three pounds. PB also caught a couple and so ended another brilliant weeks Wye fishing. We were disappointed not to meet Colin the bailiff as we just dropped into the closest swims and a bit of advice would have been handy! Being registered disabled and 70 plus, I am not very agile and have to pick my spots carefully. Many thanks to the WUF for making the stretches available, we will be back next year.

Very difficult to find the parking as indicated and the location itself. Did need several local inquiries to find the exact location. GPS coordinates could do the job and a better map also. Was around 1pm on location and "hunted" for the trout. Did use a 3wt 7ft rod and caught beautiful brown trout in deep pools. Used a klinkhamer to do so (after trying several other flies).

Great beat but very low water in the heat which eventually got the better of us. No fish caught but enjoyable all the same.

Had a great day fishing this beat. 10 barbel 6lb 4ozs to 8lb 5ozs, one of the chub weighed 3lb 5ozs.
Most came to halibut pellet on a straight lead over loose feed pellet.
Will definitely be back.

Beat:The Rectory Fishery
Fishing:Salmon
No. of Anglers:1
Stayed at The Griffin which, besides good ale and food, allowed an early 5am start. They also allowed me breakfast at midday.
From the start saw two fish show in the neck of The Rectory, one coloured the other silver, both about 10lb. This offered encouragement. Along with cooler early morning temperatures, cloud cover faded as the morning progressed and temperatures increased. Just a few trout taken in the faster water at head.

Lovely warm evening but no movement until 8.30pm when a small hatch resulted in plenty of rising fish. Two caught at 12" and 14" with two others escaping the hook, one quite the acrobat. Small yellow dry proved to be the colour of choice. All went quiet again at 9.30pm. A fun hour.( All fish returned).
