Fished a beaded nymph with floating line. The river was clear but access to the water at parts was impractical with high banks & vegetation. That said, from the booking with u&w,f through to some great fishing, it made my holiday.
Thank you.

Muddy conditions, loads of patience still brought 4 trout to hand on a para adams.

8 x trout 6-10 inches, Rusty Klinkhammer. A strangely tropical sort of morning, beginning with a torrential downpour, carrying on hot and sticky with the Skirrid and Black Mountains hidden by low hanging clouds, followed by yet another torrential downpour late morning. This finally turned the stream muddy and brought sport to an end. Fishing during the interval between the rains, trout were found hanging in the deep slack water of the pools - rather unusually nothing much was to be found in the runs or on the pool tails. In deep pools with almost no flow at all, the best technique was to cast the fly out and then give it a twitch to draw attention to it. Wham! A few mayfly were still around, even so late as this, but fish were not much interested, preferring a small (size 16) artificial. Good to have this beat back on the list, especially after a team of volunteers worked to prune it on behalf of the owners during the 2012/13 winter. I can see we shall have to do it again soon.

Despite the thundery downpours, a great days fishing. Two of us taking fish throughout the day at regular intervals, with the better sized barbel turning up towards dark. Simple swim-feeder tactics with groundbait and pellets was all that was needed.
Chub between 1/2lb and 4lb, and barbel between 3lb and 7 1/2lb, with one fish taken at 10lb 3oz. The double was a very clean fish with no signs of recapture either.
Fantastic beat of W&U water. The only point i'd feedback is that access isn't the easiest, with a narrow path (very slippy if wet) down to most swims from the first peg of the beat, and some very steep banks if any other route down is attempted, it's much easier to take the bare basics down to the swim. Perfectly doable for most, but perhaps a little too risky for the older angler, especially if on your own.

The river was rising when we arrived and the fishing was very tough. We fished the lower section of the beat in the obvious swims. The weather didn't do us any favours with bright sunny periods and thundery heavy showers. A nice section of the Wye with easy access so would like to visit again.

River appeared low and clear. Very bright conditions. Only fished for 2 hours. I suspect evening up to dusk would have proved more interesting. This was more of a fact finding mission with my wife and threat of thunderstorm together with the access around the field caused me to abandon fishing.
