Where were the grayling? Extra water in the river and coloured but not opaque. Heavy shower at midday but otherwise fine with some olives hatching. In every run and glide there were trout snapping up my PT and sawyer nymphs, but no sign of grayling. Trout were of good size and excellent condition, all swam off strongly.

A beautiful and tranquil stretch of the river. However, it was very disappointing in terms of the amount of swims available. The lower areas are basically impossible to fish due to there being no managed swims at all apart from two which were clearly very dangerous in the wet weather. Below those two the bank side was way too overgrown with trees/bushes to even consider creating your own swim.
Very annoying considering some of the best looking water could not be accessed.
To top that off, the barbel were playing very hard to get and we only had one between the two of us.
Will think twice before returning to this beat - I think WUF need to have a word with the riparian owners.
