Yesterday saw my first days fishing for 30 years at Doldowlod. As I stepped onto the suspension bridge I could hardly believe my eyes glimpsing 2 beauties rising on the surface below me. One about 20 and the other I politely guess around the 40 mark. I am not referring to lbs weight, but the ages of the 2 stark naked ladies taking their early morning dip in the Wye. Any way my general fishing below this boundary bridge saw few fish rising, only 3 grayling and 2 trout to 1/2 lb caught on a dry red tag. Back above the bridge, big grayling, and I mean loads of them were seen rising all over the shop. One might even have been a salmon. Such a shame the WUF don't let the entire estate along with the premier pools where we once caught grayling and salmon by the shed load. Perhaps you can advise me who does let the better maintained fishing on those more productive autumn pools like the upstream Argoed and Red Pool or the bottom end Sand and Fish pools.

Arrived 8am, a fresh breeze with a hint of autumn in the air. In previous visits the fishing has been just great, plenty of action, rising fish to target. Not today, it was very dour. The wind dropped and the odd fish rose here and there. I managed to pick up a few trout in the quieter spells, all around 5-6 ozs. Not a great day by Bugeilyn standards but a fabulous wee spot, I will be back next season.

Caught nothing either on nymphs or streamer. The water was too high and way too colored. I left after 3 hopeless hours, it was a waste of time (and money). Should we be warned when the water is in such a state in the middle of summer ?
Is the wash-off policy working for this ? Please advise

WUF note: Wash off policy applies to this beat and is granted in this occasion. Please keep and eye on the webcams when there is rain around.

Nil caught. Hooked a good fish by the Pylon swim, lost after a couple of minutes, not really sure why! Fished early, river rising and coloured. Should have thought more about fishing on a Sunday in August, with significant volume of canoes coming down the river.

A good day with around 20 trout between the two rods and almost as many missed / lost. Best was a lovely 14" fish to H.W. Most came to G.R.H.E in the faster, more oxygenated water. Parr almost became a 'nuisance' but great to see so many in the river for the future!

River dropping and clearing as day went on but no salmon seen but did manage two small brown trout. Great day in great surroundings.
