Caught one grayling on the Saturday and another grayling on the Sunday. Both were around 1 3/4lb (no scales unfortunately - apologies).

The first grayling was caught on a goldhead nymph. The second on a small and grey dry fly.

1x 9 inch fish between us. Plenty of fish about but in the low water conditions we could not get in casting distance.
Scare one scare them all. A bit like the sheep in the fields! Still it is always a good day on the water with a fly rod.

Spent Weds roving and didn't find the right swims until 5 pm then had about 4 barbel to 8 1/2 lbs and a chub before dark. I was the only person fishing this amazing stretch and booked for Thursday on the phone which was a bonus.

Thurs was much better despite being very hot and clear, again lots of roving from 12 until 9 pm and discovering new swims downstream - 9 barbel to 9lb 6 ozs and 1 chub, great jungle fishing down near the rope pool. Most fish taken on Halibut pellet, lots of Salmon leaping around dusk on the upstream stretches.

Dear Wendy, Allyson and the Team,

Thank you for arranging another wonderful day on the Wye and fitting us in on Backney. We arrived at 9.30am.... walked the top end of the stretch and settled in on Crib 4.

Had 2 barbel in two casts......so 2 barbel novices were made up!! And of course, wanting more! The river duly obliged and in spite of a clear sky, the sun beating down and the river fining, we managed another 13 barbel and 2 chub. The biggest barbel was 8-12. All caught on elips pellets cast mid river.

Kingfishers, buzzards and a Tornado (Courtesy of the RAF) made for a great day and three very happy teenagers!

Thanks to all the Team. Keep up the great work!

Fishing:All Species (in season)

Thanks to the recent rain the Edw had a healthy flow with very little colour. Warmish day, no wind, plenty of cloud cover - perfect!

26 brownies caught and released. All between 4" - 7" which seems representative on this small river. Really absorbing sport on very light tackle. Fished a combination of wet flies (partridge and orange, snipe and purple, partridge and green) and nymphs (diawl bachs) all size 14 which seemed to work a treat for these little brownies.

Tried for a bigger fish in some of the deeper pools, a few takes but nothing made the net. However, there are definitely bigger trout resident in this smallish water.

My second visit to Aberedw this season and would recommend it to those who enjoy delicate angling in a peaceful and remote setting.
