I fished mainly with dry fly. Water was quite low and conditions bright, hence a difficult day.

Nil caught.

All very quiet again. Very little surface activity at all.
2 decent trout to 10 inches caught on a PTN variant, both returned.

First time on Wyesham: I got to fish the lower 2/3 - the Hut and Colemans. After laying out a sum for the day which could have covered a pretty good weekend in Vegas – well, almost – what do you actually get for your money? Well, you get the kind of salmon fishing which has become rarer on the Wye in recent years, although common enough in Scotland or destination fisheries abroad. A well-maintained fishery, where banks and cribs are kept in order, four boats, a well-appointed hut and the services of a gillie (between 6 rods). Wyesham is fished hard by 6 rods, almost every day of the season when conditions make it possible. Necessarily, the organisation of it all is quite regimented. Quite a lot of the beat is normally fly-fished from a boat (but bear in mind you need the gillie for this), although some of these deeper sections can be spun from the bank at certain times and under carefully regulated circumstances. What I particularly enjoyed was that this is (another) most beautiful part of the valley, and I got to wade and fish some fly water to die for, such as Livox stream and the very interesting Colemans.
Blank for salmon, although this was hardly the fault of the beat. Conditions looked perfect and fish were showing – we just couldn’t get one to take! And the other day ticket rod (who came from Hertfordshire) and I fished a long day, starting around 7.30am and going on into the evening. This reminds me of one point which needs clearing up. Over lunch in the hut together with the season rods, the gillie suddenly announced that day ticket rods “shouldn’t really start before 9.00 AM.” Now nothing had been mentioned of this during a telephone conversation the evening before and the WUF ticket states a start from dawn if wanted. My own view is that I don’t see why day ticket holders shouldn’t have as good a day out on this beat as season rods, especially as they have paid more for it, pro-rata. Clarification please?

WUF comment: Owner clarification - Day ticket anglers can fish from dawn provided that they inform Ray or Joe the ghillies the day before.

It was a tough day's fishing but a great day. Access was very tricky as the bracken and Himalayan balsam has overwhelmed the banks. Earlier in the year, it's presence was barely noticeable. There were few rises throughout the day although there were trout clearly feeding by the wall at about 6pm. I only caught on nymphs as I couldn't match the hatch!

Very hard fishing, even though the river looked in perfect condition. One barbel of about 4 pounds taken within the first half hour and we all thought it could be a red letter day. Sadly it wasn't to be.
I would like to comment however on your description of the venue you advertise it as two miles of double bank fishing when in reality it is one mile of single bank fishing as the opposite bank has no access to it!
You further go on to intimate that there are plenty of accessible pegs. With the exception of the gravel bank - which was occupied by some eight or nine canoeists having a picnic, we really had some difficulty finding decent swims. We all felt, that in general, your descriptin was a little disingenuous to say the least.

WUF note - The fishing is advertised as double bank and is marked this way to advise the angler that there will not be anglers on the opposite bank competing with them for swims, maintaining the exclusivity element.

1 Barbel, 2 Chub

Only managed about 3 hours fishing, after a long day on Nant y Moch reservoir the day before my teenage daughter was beginning to show signs of being bored! Still managed 14 feisty wee trout, best in the cloudy calmer spells, sun out, wind up, fish down. Is it me or have the bigger fish disappeared? Not had a fish of over 3/4lb for a few years now.

All fish taken off the top with greenwells glory. River level low and clear. All fish returned.

Nice Easy stretch of River. Unfortunately unfishable due to hundreds of canoes (all day) passing down stream at Wyebank.
If there were any fish they sure got scared off.
