The river was dropping after deluge previous week and water colour was good. Bright sun and little cloud did not bode well and so it proved. Sport was restricted to small brown trout & odd coarse fish, on fly/spinner, generally sections 3 to 5. Nothing could tempt the bigger fish evident from the occasional big rise to surface food(?). A salmon was seen going up river at end of section 5 under trees on opposite bank. Frank caught some nice Shad on spinner, one about 2lb, all returned to river safely. Our thanks to Ian who was very helpful on our first visit to the Wye - we shall return.

Two salmon caught, 10lb in Bachawy and 14lb in Bathing Pool. Both on intermediate sink tip and size 4 Cascade. 10lb-er was slightly coloured, 14 lb-er was silver.
A lovely beat, strongly recommended to anyone seeking quality fishing and not wanting to drive to Scotland. WUF service excellent, as usual.

5 hour morning session, 16lbs slightly coloured cock fish from Stone Catch, first ever salmon. Glory halved as it came to a spinner but no choice in this pool with high-ish water. Some fish showing in Edw pool. Thank you WUF.

A difficult day with water running high. Very few fish rising and hardly a hatch all day. Various takes missed by all and unable to pinpoint what exactly was the right fly. A beautiful beat that looks like it would fish its head off under the right conditions. Three WBT were caught and returned. A big thank you to the foundation.

5 small brownies caught between us, all on small grey coloured dries. Quite a decent hatch of small olives, but no fish rising to them. A damp evening with increasingly heavy rain.

Fished afternoon & early evening (till rain arrived)on bottom half of lower beat. Good looking water, plenty of it & clear, but nothing caught & very little fly life or surface activity. Wading not easy on this section.

18th June, the river was up but dropping & still reddish in colour. We started the day at the top of the fishery, heavily pre baiting 4 likely looking swims, hemp, pellet, corn and ground bait packed into 5oz feeders to hold bottom. The fishing was slow with one fish to myself, a PB barbel of 8-14oz to corn hook bait. We moved down to the bottom section of the beat in the afternoon, a move which provided a 6lb barbel & 3 chub to 2lb to Tim.
An interesting stretch which I would like to return to when the conditions are better. Thanks to all at Wye & Usk.

River very high still but fishable. 3 barbel caught, 2 double figures, 1 eight pound. 4 Chub, 1 over 4lb 1 at 4lb, 2 at 3lbs plus. Bailiff met on site and saw photographs of first barbel & chub.
Method: 1st two fish taken on legered heavy swim feeder with 2mm pellets halibut pellet with paste wrap hook bait.
Other fish taken with similar method using PVA Mesh filled with 8mm pellets and pellet hook bait with Salmon oil or Halibut oil dip and paste wrap.
All fish returned alive and swam off full of life. All Barbel and Chub rested before release.
