Area:Upper Wye

Beat:Pontithel - River Llynfi

Fishing:All Species (in season)

No. of Anglers:1

Fished for a couple of hours in the evening, leaving the beat at 7.30pm. Hoping for lovely evening weather after a beautiful day, but the clouds had settled in by the time I got to the river. No rises to be seen and little fly life. Two small trout, each about 6", came to my pheasant tail nymph.

Area:Upper Wye

Beat:Duhonw

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:1

Fished middle section, water seemed quite low (not familiar with beat), very overgrown in places, consequently few real chances to get a cast out. Couple of pools fishable so long as approached Red Indian style, caught one brown and lost one more on own pattern nymph (Irfon Bug).

No fish caught. Noticed a man hidden fishing with a float? on the opposite bank of the downstream limit fence and another from near the dwelling/cafe (?) on Cadora pool. Both stopped fishing when I got nearer. Are these people poaching?

Area:Usk

Beat:Glan-yr-Afon

Fishing:Salmon

No. of Anglers:1

Glan-yr-Afon is the most beautiful stretch of river in the British Isles and one day I will catch a salmon there, but today I had to be content with the largest brown trout I have ever caught - at 20" long - which put up a pretty good impersonation of it's senior cousin for 15 minutes. I put it back, just in case some of its offspring choose to head downstream to the sea. Water conditions perfect at 10" on the Brecon gauge and I was fishing the top pool.

Beat:Ty Newydd

Fishing:Salmon

On the river at 5.30. Condition good, river like tea at just over 1' at Llanstephan. No Salmon caught or seen. 6 Trout and one fine Sea Trout of 3lb that almost tricked me into thinking I had a Grisle on, it gave such a good fight. Great service from Wye & Usk as always.
