Surprised at how low the river was. One 15" grayling and two out-of-season trout at 16" and 18", all from the gutters with weighted nymphs.

Very cold SE wind and a busy water with 20 to 30 fishing, almost all on worm. Fished SE shore on spinner in the morning and caught four rainbow approx 2.5 lb. Went over to the NW shore p.m. as the weather had warmed up and breeze reduced. A further 2.5 lb rainbow on fly.
A cold but enjoyable first day of season with snow still on the Carmarthen Vans.

Our 1st visit to the upper Wye, hoping to catch a Grayling, my first. The river was clear and low with hazy sunshine. Both my companion and I had a great day watching the Dippers, Red Kites and other wildlife on this beautiful stretch of river, despite the lack of fish. 5 Trout and a Grayling between us to long trotting. We will be back for the grayling next season. Thanks for a memorable day.

13 x grayling 8-14 inches, 2 x out of season trout, long trotting. Hard going, though, in water now quite low and very clear. Air temperature hovering between zero and 4 degrees through the day. Has anybody seen the sun lately?

Arrived in morning it was cold but river looked in perfect condition. Had a couple of knocks and bangs and one run but got snagged. Had to leave with a blank but will definitely try this beat again.

River low and clear and very cold!! Trotted maggot in all the likely places and most of the unlikely ones, got interest in 2 swims which both required wading and fish picked up at 40 yards, couldn't draw them up the swim and a swirling downstream wind made presentation difficult.
Had one good Grayling of about 2 1/2 lb (left scales at home!!) and some nice Chub over 4lb backed up by some small brownies and two other nice Grayling.
All in all an enjoyable if hard day, glad to get out of the icy water and in front of the fire at the Red Lion!!
Can't wait for next Autumn and another crack at those elusive Grayling shoals.
10 Trout, 3 Grayling, 5 Chub
