Fishing:Trout (River)

8 WBT caught largest about 1.5lbs or 37cm. All taken upstream nymphing with size 16 goldheads, Icelandic Peacock and HE. Fishing slowed off in late afternoon with very bright sunshine. Strong gusty wind, some fly life coming off with occasional rising fish seen but it still does not feel much like late spring !

Beat:The Honddu - Lower Stanton Beat

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:1

3 x WBT caught & released, all around 8 inches. River running fast and slightly coloured. Lots of fly life about with Hawthorns, midge and various up-wings in abundance. Not a single rise all day. Fished deep and took fish on a weighted PTN and black midge larva on a dead drift. No Mayfly (Ephemera sp.) sighted - a local land owner kindly informed me that "Junefly" would be a more appropriate name for the species in these parts!

Sadly we cut our visit short as the river ,although falling, was too high !! However it did fall back over our 3 day trip and one can see how wonderful the area is and how much has been done to regenerate the stocks.
I had 3 big tugs but sadly not actually on the line.
Constant canoe trips did not deter our fishing although one or two were a complete pain.
Stories abound in the pubs of the one that got away ...and you should have seen the one caught last week !!!

Beat:The Rectory Fishery

Fishing:Salmon

No. of Anglers:2

Stephen had 2 in the morning, 17lb from Rock pool on a 1 1/4" tube and 19lb from Ty Mawr on a flying C. I fished in afternoon and added another from the Rock pool on a small shrimp fly, a bar of silver but only 7.5lb. Gave me a surprisingly good scrap for its size and went back strongly. River at 2ft 2" 5ft visibility and dropping very slowly.
