The day started slowly, mainly due to the crystal clear water and bright sunshine. Fished for the 1st 2 hrs with very little success. Fish were easily spooked and difficult to get near.
Shortly after mid day the cloud cover increased and the fish started showing intrest in my copper head #16 bug, fished french nymph style on about 4ft of v fine tippet. The next hour produced 3 wbt, 2 x 1 1/4lb and a really plump 15" fish not far off 2lb (all fish returned safely). Left shortly after 2pm

Having fished the beat last month with plenty of fly life and no fish rising I planned to fish the afternoon and evening. However, after seeing the weather forecast I fished the morning into the afternoon. Plenty of flies hatching but only of couple of fish rising. Caught and released 5 trout all to a size 12 mayfly nymph.

J caught 1 grayling about 2lbs on Adams and lost 1 trout 1 1/2 lb on goldhead nymph plus acouple of fingerlings
R caught 2 decent brownies one about 1/2lb and the other just 2lbs, both on goldhead nymphs. All returned.
Given the conditions and recent reports we were satisfied.
No rises, little airborne life. Rained most of day at about 12C. River low and clear.
Make no mistake wading here even at these levels is very tricky and potentially perilous if you want to cover the water. Not a lot of water, 4 rods would be too many. Costly for this part of the world all considered. To the contrary it would be good value for the salmon fishing if they have a run like last year.

Last year I seem to remember the precipitation trigger was someone washing their car in Milton Keynes. Well this year its me booking fishing. It started just as we were leaving Churchdown at 1.30pm and grew throughout the afternoon/evening - but no more than nusiance initially. Llynfi Dulas is challenging small stream fishing and initially at least it lived up to this. Its a very different game to main river fishing particularly in the low and clear water that currently exists. Stealth and accuracy are mandatory. We got it right for the first hour or so and netted 6 brownies between 3 and 13" - all lovely colourful and plump fish, there must have been a good mayfly hatch - in fact a few that hadnt got a calendar this year were still hatching along with olives of various hues and sizes. The fish do not allow the luxury of a second cast - either its take the ginger quill first cast or they are gone, great fishing! But by 5pm the rain increased and dampened their - and our - enthusiasm. We do need some serious rain to top up the rivers soon though. Oh - evidence of worming/spinning tackle hanging from the trees on the caravan site stretch.

Day started well with a chub taking the bait on the drop on my first cast of the morning. Caught steadily during the early morning with 2 barbel and 3 chub in the bag by the time I went to Lucksall for breakfast. The rain in the afternoon seemed to put a virtual stop to any feeding with only one barbel between lunchtime and about 7pm. Once the rain stopped the bites started and had 3 more barbel and another chub between 7.15pm and 9pm.
Lots of swims available throughout the section although many involve a bit of a scramble, especially tricky after the rain. I can imagine if the level was up a couple of feet it would be a little harder to fish.

Lovely stretch of water.
Although the fish were not at there most active.
Between us we had 12 Trout best of about 11" the rest around the 6" to 8" there is excellent weed growth as you go up the beat and it was in this that we found most fish.
