Headed here for a couple of hours fishing before heading home. None caught, river very clear and probably above our meagre skill level but a nice morning to not be at work!

Fished for half a day in difficult, wet conditions in high water. Had plenty of plucks and pulls and lost four fish at the net! Not my day but this is indeed a great beat and provides fantastic, varied fishing. I will book it again if free on a Monday.

Water at 1.3m and bank fishing only for salmon. Not able to control fly as gusty wind prevailed so gave up at 4pm.

Beat:Cilieni

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:1

4 x trout 10-14 inches. I had to work hard to get those on dry fly and quite possibly I would have done better with nymph or duo. The Cilieni was clear, but still running very high and fast, and although there was a certain amount of fly about, very few rising fish. Trout seemed to be confined to the slower pools, of which there are not so many at this water height. Two prospecting with a Rusty Klinkhammer on the way up; after which, at about 3 in the afternoon, a few large dark olives were in evidence and two more risers taken on Stuart Jarvis' Bastard Adams pattern. Not a large bag, but nice trout for a small stream. A good walk on a fine spring day and, as usual, not another soul was encountered up this valley.

3 trout caught on size 16 bibio and 18 snipe and purple. Lost five. There were heaps of fish feeding, but unfortunately they were preoccupied with caenis.
