First look at this beat lovey water and with the river so low you could see every rock! I fished down through but did not connect with anything but a couple of good trout and a small pike. RP was after the trout and managed to rise many fish without hooking one! Came back for another look on Wednesday and fished most of the morning before it started to snow very heavily, and I could no longer feel my hands!

Although being new to river fishing, I had one of the most beautiful afternoons fishing I think I've ever had. Sunny, dry with a steady hatch of grannom that had fish rising everywhere. Tried a dry with no joy but then had 3 browns from a perfect 5"ish to a larger but equally perfect 10"ish all taken on home tied size 14 red holo Diawl Bach. The best fish of the afternoon was also my first Grayling, and of a decent pound plus size taken on a small size 14 black unweighted pheasant tail style nymph. All flies were barbless and all fish returned without leaving the water.

5 WBT caught and released to 1lb, lovely beat only covered half the water, Grannom hatches from 11am till 2pm, then quieter. Two fish took a Grey Wulf, a very enjoyable day, fished from 10 till 4pm thank you for the recommendation.

12 WBT shared between 2 rods and many more missed. All fish were a good size with a couple at 2lb and 1.5lb. There was a huge Grannom hatch that lasted most of the day, bringing fish to the surface until around 6pm. Most took CDC & Elk Hair fished on a long leader. A great day's fishing!

A lovely morning on Glan-yr-Afon. Bright sunshine, warm, fairly still. Not much activity at lower end of beat, so tried nymphs etc before switching to a dark olive (I should have paid more attention to past catch returns posted here) when I saw a few fish rising towards upper end of beat below waterfall. Had plenty of interest, but possibly needed a smaller size as couldn't connect. Eventually had a fine WBT of c. 14oz (returned). By around 2pm few fish rising.

Beat:Middle Usk - Mardy

Fishing:Trout (River)

5 x trout 10-12 inches. Another bright day beginning with a ground frost. A fairly slow-burning grannom hatch during the midday hours and fish difficult to tempt: two on Hare's Lug and Plover spiders and three on Dave Collin's Shuttlecock Grannom Emerger.
