River condition seemed to be good and the beat is well maintained but no salmon were seen nor were there any tugs on various flies presented at various depths but I will probably try this beat again.

Afternoon and evening session. Blistering hot to start with at 3pm. Lugg running quite fast and milky. Wading was a challenge at times. A mass of flylife including mayflys. Nothing all afternoon - had on trout on for a couple of seconds. Resumed upstream of bridge at 6.30pm after a break and immediately had a 10" trout on a grhe fished under a Coch y Bonthi. Then had a couple of splashy rises to the fly so off with the nymph. Plenty of splashy rises from small fish until 8pm when river came alive. In an hour had 4 more trout all around 8-10" mark and missed twice as many.
Otter swam through heading downstream so called it a day.
Nice to have new stiles along beat. Having helped clear this beat over the winter - it never ceases to amaze me how fast everything grows. Where we had cleared branches well clear of the river - the weigh of leaves has now brought them back down to the surface.
One of my favourite WUF beats.

What a brilliant little river, possibly my favourite of the Wild Stream beats that I have fished. Not much rising, but caught 3 lovely trout on a para Adams, my first dry fly caught brownies, magical stuff. One trout about 5", the other two 8-10". Can't wait for my next opportunity to fish this river.

River getting a bit below optimum (5" at Fownhope and the irrigation pumps running flat out) but holding some turbidity. Just fished the evening and no salmon seen but one offer late on to fly in the run into the Vanstone. Sadly it just took a foot of line and was gone.

No dry fly fishing in spite of masses of fly life. I am not very good at spotting takes with nymphs let alone trying to constantly mend line at the same time which is what was required on this technically demanding beat. In spite of that pleased with the one fish... an absolute beauty and enjoyed fishing a super beat. Would I do it all again ... of course. Great that the WUF make these beats available.

Had my first certain salmon sighting of the season this evening - unfortunately 1 minute before the only canoes of the evening passed right over it. I left it for a while and went over it with different flies, but it wasn't to be. A nice shad taken on a brief visit the previous evening. It has been an enjoyable spring getting to know some good fly water and I'm quite relaxed about not catching anything that I was going to have to put back anyway. A far cry from earlier years. Maybe one day the powers that be will again grant us the right to take at least one fish home. Then the adrenalin might start to flow again!
