First ever session on this beat. River was 8 feet up but starting to drop back. Fished peg 4 with 4oz feeder approx three rod lengths out and parallel with downstream tree. Two big (4lb plus) chub were followed by 4 barbel all around the 8lb mark. Popped home for lunch then returned to fish peg 3 which produced a good brace of barbel at 8lb 7 oz and 9lb 4oz. Returning on thursday for further "education". Lovely venue, reasonable parking and Don is just such a helpful chap.

On the recommendation of Seth I started 3 days of fishing on the upper Usk in the hope of decent river conditions following the recent heavy rainfall. Good advice Seth! This was a cracking beat. Good variety of water and great fishing. Caught 8 trout to about a pound mainly on nymphs, but one on a dry. Saw one otter and had a great day. cheers WUF, good work.

Fished mid-morning to late afternoon for 3 barbel to 7lbs on pellets. After getting my car stuck, breaking my new rod and getting ticked off by the owner of the house next door for making the woodland track look untidy with my skidding antics I went home to watch the football to lift my spirits! The fishing was good considering the high water levels but be very careful parking if you visit in the wet. The walk up the hill is hard work - leave all excess weight in the car.

River up and running hard in a very fast area. Had 1 chubb & 1 small barbel on meat in the morning. In the first swim next to bridge, needed 4oz weight to hold.

Thank you Ian for meeting us on Sunday 24 June. Due to the heavy rain the night before, the river was very high but we found a slacker area on the gravel bank on beat 5 and managed 2 chub between us.
On Monday the level had gone down a fair bit, but it was still not easy. We fished the same place and had 1 barbel (5lb 12oz) and 6 chub up to 5lb between us. It was a glorious day on the Monday and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
All fish except one chub were caught on Halibut pellet. I tried corn and meat with little success (1 chub on meat).
I would love another trip to the Wye in more favourable conditions.
Once again, many thank.

Beat:How Caple Court
Fishing:Coarse
No. of Anglers:2
My first time at How Caple Court, and it is another great location. After reading the river reports overnight I wasn't confident of even fishing, so it was great to find most of the beat was fishable. Chose a peg about a third of the way up from the bottom end - in hindsight I don't think the two of us sharing the same peg was the best idea, but c'est la vie. Got in to fish straight away, and had landed 10 barbel to just over 9lb within the first 2.5 hours - and then nothing for the rest of the day!
Had to leave early (some football match - which we lost again!), so not sure if the evening would have turned the fish on again. I did briefly catch a glimpse of something large on the surface around lunchtime, so it may be they were spooked by a pike - one of the barbel I landed had a large (healed) bite mark across his back.
Dad switched to trotting in the afternoon and landed some very nice chublets, dace and roach. All the barbel were caught on Mistral Baits 14ml elipse pellets (2 glued to a hair rig), with 3&4ml mixed pellets in a block-end feeder. 15lb mainline (red mist) and 12lb Guru hooklenghts to a size 10 hook. Daiwa Infinity 1.75lb test curve specialist barbel rod.
Hope to fish the beat again soon.

Another pleasant day on the Wye. River was up a fair bit and preventing the access to some swims. Started early and had nothing until late afternoon. Two barbel to about 6lb. Looking forward to getting back there.
P.S. Would be useful if more detailed parking details could be provided with booking information i.e. a diagram indicating where you should park. Not a problem for many locations.
