Away to go Erik, he caught 2 trout in summer low and bright conditions in the afternoon after some casting lesson and river craft. The first was half pound the second 3.5lbs which did 4 runs of 30 metres and he handled it like a pro and considering this was only his sixth trip fly fishing. Where does he go from here?!!

We missed the glorious weather by a week, the temperature returned to the normal April cool / cold. There was however some hatching activity but very few fish showing. I caught 2 Grayling (on one cast), they obviously didn't know they were out of season. One small brownie at the end of an excellent day.

What a lovely part of the river, the sort of beat it's just nice to be at, you cant even hear the road noise from the water. A bit cloudy and cool, river still very low, where was that rain we were promised this week! Seven brown trout on emergers, plently of small fish on this beat. The only down side to this beat is how far away it is! but I'm sure we will make the effort to return to this beautiful part of the Wye.

Disappointed by this beat, the longer stretch below the bridge is long slow wide and in most cases deep, even with current very low water levels, devoid of any features or structure in the water. If fish are rising, probably some good fishing below the bridge where access seems better, but difficult stretch for nymphing. Access on the rh bank hampered by deep bank and remains of trees in water Saw the fish of a lifetime basking in the shade, unfortunately not accessible, are they ever?
My knowledge of salmon fishing is limited so my perspective is purely as a trout fisherman
Reasonable run above the bridge with a nice tail, caught 8 inch brown on GRHE and 2 salmon par . Two hours of fishing tops. Went of for a pint, came back at three , fished it again. Caravan park at head of this stretch , risk of stone throwing and paddling children !
Plenty of flies about some olives at lunch time , no fish feeding on the surface
Also booked for following day, decided to book somewhere else , ever helpful Wye and Usk team arranged Penpont for me .
Stayed at the Bear in Crickhowell overnight , very nice.

2 small brownies in perfect condition, caught on grey duster. Had a few takes on a klinkhammer but were missed. Quite hard going, not many fish rising but a great day. Lovely meal in the Bell.

Marvellous day on a long beat which is difficult to cover in one day. We went downstream to the small road bridge where it is one bank only fishing. Soon the Grannom were hatching and the fish rising. After a few near misses I tempted a 2 1/2lb to a perkins shuttlecock olive (bought a couple of hours earlier at Fishtec). My son had a small trout on a nymph and I managed a half pounder later in the afternoon. This like all usk beats is challenging but well worth the effort if only to catch one lunker.

Fishing:Trout (River)

7 x little brownies, 6-8 inches, on Klinkhammer - which is less than average for this brook, but the water is now very, very low. Plus what we think is a salmon smolt, which is extremely encouraging.

15 fish in total caught, 5 of which were graying. No fish were taken. Water very low (like mid summer really) but great sport.
