Fishing:Winter Grayling

Caught 8 fish 6 grayling and 2 trout, spooked a cormarant!
That was a first. All fish returned to fight another day.
A rare day for me in that the weather was reasonable no trees bent double or white horses on the water :-)it was my
first visit to this beat and I was quite impressed. Caught on ptn and hares ear nymphs largest fish was 38cm. All was going so well I decided to stop for a coffee at mcdonalds (good latte ) despite my car having 2 cup holders i held the cup between my knees to add suger you can guess the rest! A soggy ride home and no drink.

Lovely day and great new stretch of water. Only managed to fish about 5 swims from Carey Pool at the top to just below the islands but took 2 Barbel (6 lbs and 8 lbs) and 2 Chub (1 1/2 lbs and 4 lbs) all on a cocktail of small pellet and red maggots (neither seemed to work on their own). Nice way to finish the season - can't wait until Summer. Found one swim where the spot you'll sit in is so protected from the elements that when the sun came out I had to take my jacket off!

Beat:R43 The Dore, Chanstone Court

Fishing:All Species (in season)

No. of Anglers:2

Fished the Chanstone Court stretch of the Dore with Mr R Game. He caught two trout of approx 10 inches plus a grayling which was slightly smaller. I had two trout of about the same size. All fish returned. Lovely little stretch but far better access to the river is required. If you didn't tear your waders getting over the barbed wire fencing then you certainly caught them in the mass of brambles that have overun the bankside.

Very cold and frosty overnight and with the river low and clear we didn't expect much action. In fact between the two of us we didn't have a bite all day despite moving swims and trying light lines and small baits. Roll on the warmer days of summer!

None caught, none seen but water was clear. Cold day with good frost in morning. Lovely looking river especially the upper beat. Will return.
Take care with parking, owner of house would prefer that we don't park under the Yew, but good natured and no problems.

A quick trip report for 6th & 7th March. We all had a brilliant time although only one of us caught one fish: one 40cm brown trout from Llanfechan. Released of course.

Both Wye & Irfon were the clearest I have seen them. Very cold weather on Saturday and bright sunshine on Sunday. Small hatch of upwings on Sunday. I spent the day Sunday stalking fish in Llanfechan in one particular spot and was surprised to see some pretty big customers (up to 50cm). They were very spooky though.

Everyone agreed that April / May would be a better time with more obvious top of the water fly activity but we thouroughly enjoyed it.

Thank you for your help in organising.

Arrow at Court of Noke R26. 2 x grayling, 11 and 18 inches. Cold and rather hard fishing through the day, but I was grateful that the big fellow showed up at sunset. I've been out on the Usk, too, and found it tough going - temperature on both rivers around 4 degrees and the Usk is very clear. During the afternoons I'm starting to see just one or two large dark olives, though, so hopefully it will improve soon.

A very cold and overcast day. Two Chub caught. One of 4lb 8oz and the other 5lb 3oz. Missed quite a few bites but we were happy to land two pristine fish. A lovely stretch of river. We will be returning in the summer to target the Barbel.
