Beautiful gin clear river with some good midday/afternoon hatches. Few fish to be seen although I did spot and spook a massive grayling.

A great return to this lovely piece of water, 6 browns, 4 quite small but two of about 12/13 inches all returned. In the afternoon had a 1 1/2 lb Grayling returned without touching the fish, caught on GH olive.

2 x wild trout, 14 inches and 18 inches, Woodcock and Hare's Lug. A light large dark olive hatch starting around midday, but fish were more interested in march browns during the afternoon. Incidentally, I have decided for now to stop my worrying about whether this last is really Rhithrogena Germanica in the Usk or not. My reasoning is that if it looks like a march brown, hatches in numbers at times and places like a march brown, trout feed on the nymphs and duns and can be taken on patterns intended to imitate a march brown...well then, as far as I'm concerned it might as well be a march brown!

Quite a cold day. Could not see any fish rising and found access to the river very difficult in many places. No fish, just not our day. Would not return until access is improved

It’s 40 years since I last wet a fly, other fishing styles have predominated since then, but even so I managed an impressive nine trout on a Gilt Head Nymph, all four to eight inch, on this testing little water. There are larger fish, I saw quite a few but in slower/deeper pools that I could not get my fly down to quick enough. Lesson learned!
Two hours plus and I was still only half way upstream from the ‘Go’….. My back is now killing me, I’m too old for crawling about on gravel banks, but will be going again soon.
In my humble opinion, this venue will improve with use. It’s great to fish virgin water but there are a lot of frustrating snags and obstacles. Not in the water so much as on the banks, loose dead vegetation for the most part, you know how annoying that can be, but this would be reduced with more ‘traffic’.
Also, I’m not sure if it warrants four vouchers when compared with other venues I’ve looked at but I await a more experienced anglers point of view.

Good hatch of fly, no sign of fish anywhere?

Cold and windy day on Talybont Reservoir, no fish caught or seen. Windy conditions made casting difficult and very little insect activity. Nice to be out on the water, however I could only tolerate a few hours in the cold and wind.

Water low and very clear with very little activity, I saw one rise all day. Even when there was a smallish hatch around 1.00 p.m. the trout showed no interest. Let's hope for a bit of water and higher temperatures.
