Very nice venue for a few hours fishing. Conditions very cold but river running at a good height. Caught 3 small Grayling and a decent out of season Brown Trout on trotted maggots.

An absolutely stunning stretch of river in a frozen landscape today. Christmas Card fishing and hugely enjoyable, but there was little good will from the fish. One serious wrap around which went nowhere, a few baits taken but nothing whatsoever hooked. Meat, cheese, bread, oiled pellets, casters. Nothing worked. Freezing for first two hours, and final hour of the day. Would imagine river temps were colder?
Lovely to meet and chat with land owner. Interesting and friendly gent.
Look forward to meeting up with him again, when skates and ice saws aren't required.

Don't think the fish have got used to this cold weather yet ,I certainly haven't!. Didn't find any shoaled up grayling anywhere just the odd fish her e and there. Water water was clear and a good hight. Most of the fish were small and all caught on nymphs. Grayling to 11" and the trout 12" ( one lost grayling )

My first time on this lovely beat. I had read quite a bit about its superb winter grayling fishing and was chomping at the bit to give it a go. Now, I’m quite an experienced Euro nymphing devotee and after walking the beat was quietly confident that I would find a few fish. Four hours or so of concentrated effort rather put me in my place. Not a single fish to the net. I don’t know why I failed and if I were returning tomorrow I would probably fish the same areas in the same manner. So, I have a lot to ponder - but isn’t that one of the reasons our sport is so wonderful that we can never assume success and ultimately the river always has the final word. Would I return ? Definitely. I have a lot of answers to resolve.

Cold, with little wind and occasional sunshine, air temp 2 degrees the whole day.

River still pushing through a bit, and had to really search the water to find the fish.

Really nice to be out on a lovely winters day!

River was at an ok height reading 0.56 at Cilmery gauge, but the clarity of the water was really poor and
pretty much killed the fishing (my excuse anyway!). Fished euro nymph and duo without touching a fish even after slinging a squirmy worm at them. Stunning beat with a good mix of water and good accessibility.

Lovely few hours on this beautiful beat. The river was a tad high and had a good pace but was fairly clear. Despite the wading ban I was able to Euro nymph from the bank and had plenty of places to try. Luckily the cottage was unoccupied and I was able to fish the garden. I ended with 3 good grayling and 2 OOS trout all of which gave a good account of themselves. Access, especially by the bridge, has deteriorated since last season and the beat would be out of bounds for anyone unable to scramble over broken styles and barbed wire fencing.

Caught a small chub about 1.30 pm on luncheon meat, at the bottom field. Half an hour later hooked a PB Chub of 5lb 11oz. Again on Luncheon meat. Really pleased. I have to thank the fellow fisherman who told me he was getting bites on large pieces of luncheon meat, saying he was after Barbel and thought it was small chub. So I went back to my swim and changed to luncheon meat. I started in the same manner, so I reduced the size of the bait, and made the hair shorter. It worked.
