Information

The River Taff rises as two rivers in the Brecon Beacons — the Taf Fechan and the Taf Fawr - before they converge to form the main river north of Merthyr Tydfil.

The Taf Fawr rises below Corn Du, south-west of Pen y Fan, and flows south through Beacons, Cantref and Llwyn-on reservoirs. The Taf Fechan rises immediately to the south of Pen y Fan and flows southwards through the two Neuadd reservoirs, Pentwyn and finally Pontsticill reservoir before descending into a wooded gorge towards Merthyr Tydfil.

From Merthyr, the main Taff tthen meanders its way towards Abercynon and Pontypridd before arriving in Cardiff where it passes the Millennium Stadium before entering Cardiff Bay.

The Taff has a late run of salmon and the occasional sewin but it is more famous now its stocks of brown trout and grayling, some of which are very big!

Booking Office Taff beats are shown as orange markers on the map to the right, Wild Stream beats are shown with grey markers.
