No longer JM from Kingsland as have now retired to Devon. Back for a long weekend for a wedding so took the opportunity to have a day on Abernant.
The rain on Friday lifted the level by .25 of a metre and gave the river a bit of life.
Eight wbt between 8 and 12 inches on a variety of dry flies and now 12 inch grayling on a sedge late in the day.
Several large hatches of olives and a few mayflies but never many fish rising, otherwise would have expected a few more fish.
Several families playing in the river on the far bank restricted area fished to lower area of Lady Alexander’s Catch and wading to the middle of Abernant stream and fishing back towards the bank.
Back in Salcombe now - experimenting with fly fishing for mullet who will take a nymph and wiggly worms and give a good tussle on a four weight, and bass and pollock on lures.
Will be back for another session on the Wye in July.

Beautiful day, perfect river conditions and big Mayfly hatch later in the afternoon but very little interest and hardly any fish rising, which was disappointing. Still a great day and my companion hooked a 3" brown trout on his very first river fly fishing experience, so that made the day :0)

Water low and gin clear 1' on guage. No fish seen. Very bright and hot day. Salmon fishing waste of time really but long way to travel from Kent. Enjoyed the day very much and impressed with the fishery. Booked this beat when the Wye was in flood.

Great to fish this beat again, it's been a while. So accessible and very pretty. We had the place to ourselves, which is always a bonus and the water was 'perfect'. Fishing proved difficult though, not helped by a cold, blustery upstream wind. A few fly were about but certainly not in numbers to bring the fish on. We persevered with spiders for most of the day, and managed to winkle out a few small trout and an out of season grayling (the best fish of the day, at just 12 inches). The ever faithful Snipe and Purple worked well on the middle dropper, helped 'down' by a tungsten nymph on the point. The odd fish did start to move late afternoon but they proved very selective. Other than the fishing, two highlights of the day were a very low flying jet banking just over our heads, along with a big black stoat or mink working the opposite bank. We'll be back!

Nothing caught or seen. Nice day out in a company of very friendly new owners of the beat. Having said that, can they also be booked as fishing rods? Thank you.

Stayed at Pwllgwilym holiday cottages B&B night before , highly recommended , epic breakfast with home made bread ,

The country side was beyond beautiful in the morning , stopped of Dave Morgan’s in Builth Wells for some of his home cured bacon before getting to the beat.

Conditions were perfect for a memorable day’s fishing but fish had other ideas. No response to a Klink and nymph . Switched to a dry as midday approached and the odd olive was coming off the water . Two small grayling snatched at the dry , nothing after that. Fished a team of nymphs and hooked a nice Grayling of around a pound . No surface activity and no hatch.

River was on the high side which prevented wading across to the other bank, two salmon rods fishing at the same time so slightly crowded but we made it work.

Fishing a disappointment but stunning scenery .
