Was interesting to be able to see nearly every feature of the river bed with polaroids on when the water level is so low;Looks a different river. Was prospecting for chub ,but after 20 mins in nearly every run without a touch I put the coarse rod away & fished with a dry fly stripped through the faster water. I'm sure one of the trout was not a wild brownie ,but had all the hallmarks of a 'stockie'?

Surpised to encounter feeding fish after such a run of hot weather, but thanks to Oliver Burch, we did. Water temps stayed low enough, and this fish struck on drys (sedge, adams para, kilnks) as well as wets under the surface. Great spot and so easy to cast here. Salmon parr seem numerous and voracious as 6 were hooked. All fish under 9" and were released.

The water was at the lowest that I have ever fished here with just 4" on the Llanstephan guage. A blessedly cloudy and cool (by recent standards) day at 20 degrees max. 17 degrees water. Very few rising fish here and there during the course of the day and little fly apart from some midge. Tried nymphs and a size 18 HE emerger and, whilst I had fish on both, by far the majority came up for the emerger and, as usual to this fly at this time of year, these were mainly non-risers. Unsurprisingly, I found grayling in places one can't usually get to and not in places where you usually can! Grayling from 8-13" and trout to 12". An interesting day but lethal underfoot with lots of algae on the slabs at the top end of the beat. Great job strimming the access to the upper half of the beat! Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain!

Our glorious summer goes on. Come mid-afternoon, it was maybe too hot for fishing but, nay bother as, with an early start, I was ready for home by then. Some nice Grayling - fish of 12" plus - from the bottom of the beat. Ditto from Lady Alexanders Catch. The odd fish upstream before a close encounter with an enormous Barbel up by the Edw. Note to self - a 4 wt rod and a tennis racket sized landing net are not the ideal tools for dealing with a double figure Barbel. Tres bonne

Good fishing with nymphs in the morning, but suddenly completely cut off during the afternoon until early evening when mostly grayling start raising in the pocket water left. Missed a lot, but still good fishing. On a dry got also this healthy and coloured WBT, more than a pound in weight

Water very low and also a still day with barely a ripple on the water. In these testing conditions, and with no fish showing, tied on a small weighted GRHE nymph and took one small brownie. Still, a beautiful afternoon's fishing with my 10 year-old son who was entranced by the whole experience.
