3 Barbel, 2 Chub

The river was in flood. Very coloured, very fast with lots of debris. The upstream end of the stretch was unfishable. Lots of snags on the bottom. Managed to find some slack water downstream and caught one barbel of 5lb on meat.

It’s a beautiful bit of river, but the conditions were far from perfect. Looking forward to coming back in the summer.

1 Barbel

A lovely beat, looked splendid in the afternoon sun. Sadly the river was high and full of snow melt so fishing was hard. Found the fish in the lower half of the beat and they fell to cheese paste and the 6lb 8oz barbel was on feeder fished bread.

We managed two trout and one chub on maggot feeder, which in the conditions was a result.

Good day had on Lower Canon Bridge, nine good chub landed to 4 lbs, taken on bread.

river was perfect 2 foot on and dropping,slightly coloured but finning off.all fish caught on luncheon meat,good stamp of chub with 2 bonus barbel thrown in[about 2 lb] nice to see young fish.lovely day quite warm once you got out of the wind.

River at low winter levels and running clear. Pleasant end to the season. Disappointed that the pending sale of the estate appears to mean the beat is no longer available.
