River was up slightly and looked great but despite trying several spots could not find the fish with the exception of a welcome Chub later on. Hoped the recent rainfall would make for a good day but not to be. Had a lot of Chub knocks early on at the Beach area and returned there for evening and caught my fish and missed the only real rod bender of a bite and had a feeling my chance had gone then, fished till dusk was just not my day. Watched a baby Kingfisher across on the walls in the evening and he certainly had more success than me. Still enjoyed the day and it makes the good ones all the better when you struggle occasionally.
look forward to my next visit.

A tricky day given the high pressure and hot conditions. I fished from 08:30 - 18:00 and adopted a roaming approach fishing about half a dozen swims towards the upper end of the fishery but only 2 produced any activity whatsoever. The beach and other swims nearby looked ideal for barbel but I couldn't tempt a bite and there weren't even any chub rattles to suggest that any fish were present. The 2 swims that did show plenty of chub activity were those either side of the boathouse and eventually the downstream one produced 2 barbel of 6-7lb and another lost fish as things started to cool off later in the day. I'm sure I could have caught more had I stayed on. As usual this stretch of the Wye looked stunning and there was plenty of wildlife to keep us interested, including leaping salmon and an inquisitive mink. The farmer also kindly gave us a lift to and from the water's edge, which makes life much easier!

Fished until 3 p.m. on the corner just downstream from the weir but could not get a serious take. I moved up to the boat house swim and the river livened up after about 7 p.m. Hooked but lost a decent fish early evening and finally netted a 5.5 lbs chub caught on pellet around 8.30 p.m. Packed up at 8.45 p.m. Not satisfying to only catch one fish but at least not a blank. I will give Lower Canon another go next time I am down as it is a beautiful place and want to give it another go asap

Late evening session – arrived at 6.30pm straight from work. It did not start well, we encountered a poacher on the beach section who had arrived by Kayak. Drinking a flagon of cider and using a feeble pop up rod he was convinced it was his god given right to fish wherever he liked as long as nobody was about! Threat of calling a bailiff and the farmer eventually got rid of him. What was also disappointing was amount of rubbish left on the banks here, clearly from passing boat traffic. Bites were slow to begin with but as it got dark things picked up – CT had 4 barbel to 7lb 12oz, plus 5 chub to 4lb. SH 2 barbel best 9lb 12oz.
