A very hot day, with no fish seen for much of it. Late afternoon, saw a fish rise in the deep water at the very end of the Vanstone pool. As it couldn't be reached with a fly, I used the spinning rod and cast out a black flying C as far as I could into the middle of the river. Hooked into a 12lb cock salmon on the second cast. A slightly coloured fish, but pretty lively and a bonus at the end of a long but enjoyable day. Thanks again Mick, for your expert guidance.

Lovely beat but we think few salmon around. Saw one, moved none, caught none. Lowish, clearish water. Blazing sun all day and not ideal conditions but would fish this again in other conditions.

Conditions could hardly be better! How many times have you heard that this year?
Not a touch for us as we covered the water with a selection of flies and Mick's advice in our ears.

No fish caught or seen, but spent a very pleasant day with Mick, who gave shared some of his great knowledge of lies etc. which should greatly improve my chances of success on future visits to Goodrich Court.

What a change... 24 degrees, not a cloud in the sky. The water levels have dropped and the water was crystal clear. Great conditions for fishing. The only slight issue was that there weren't any salmon to be seen, let alone caught! The beat is in great condition and I will return again this year.
A great day, in beautiful surroundings. This year I accept that salmon will be rare at best.

Two of us fly fishing for Salmon, with resident gillie Mick. He did a great job of guiding us to all the fishy famous hot spots. Lovely well maintained fishery. Water flow good gin clear, but no sign of any fish. Bright hot sunlight did get a little bit over tanned. Will definitely do this again. Off to the upper Wye tomorrow. We are staying at a beautiful self catering accommodation called Riverside Cottage at Lower Eason Baset. It is well located for fishing lower middle and upper Wye. No drive more than 40 minutes. Our wives are having a good time visiting many interesting places each day.

Finally, the conditins were almost perfect, one salmon of about 8 pounds sea liced and one sea trout of about 2 pounds.
