All fish kept in water and all released. Garry: 5 wbt from 4oz to 1lbs; Mark: 1 wbt 1/2lbs and one grayling 1lbs; Jim: 3 wbt from 4oz to 1 1/4lbs and grayling 1 1/2lbs - 2lbs.
Water levels had risen overnight Tuesday but still running clear and dropped back Thursday. All 3 anglers felt this beautiful stretch of the river was not promoted by local hostelries and the key points of contact in Rhayader. This stretch of the river has so many features from rapids to deep pools with magnificent surrounding countryside. Lovely just to be on the river although very pleasurable to hook into a wild brown trout or grayling.

Weather was perfect for a day on the river. Water running clear and plenty of hatching ldos and March browns from 10am onwards. Apart from 1 trout and 2 grayling taken on nymphs all others taken on various dries best trout 16" and best grayling 15". Grayling fighting as demons even thought out of season. Good day

We visited for the weekend fishing Craig Llyn and Dolgau beats. Craig Llyn is a very nice stretch to fish with varied pools, glides and riffles. The morning was slow with rain falling an temperature low. Only one fish caught in the morning in the lower half of the beat but was a cracking 2lb wild brown on a PTN on french leader. Lunch saw the wind drop and the temperature increase slightly a great LDO hatch arrived. Fish rising in the faster water. 3 trout and 2 graying all to olive patterns. A really good day weather considering.

I fished as a guest of Shaun Watkins, the fishing was tough very cold not much of a hatch, but there were little hatches for about 15 mins or so at a time, we caught the fish we got on emerger patterns size 16-14, olive and brown, the most of the hatches were on the upper stretch of the beat.

Utterly miserable day! Arrived in sunshine but nearly had my door blown off by the wind as I got out of the car. Decided to walk to the very end of the beat and fish my way back to the car, but by the time I was as far from the car as I could be I was caught in a snow, hail and sleet storm with biting cold wind which lasted all morning. Got back to the car soaking wet and freezing cold but at least the sun had come out again. I got dry and warm and headed back to the river where there was as sporadic half-hearted hatch of upwings just enough to rise the odd trout or two in the fast riffley stretch, I managed two nice sized fish on a small dry fly but double hauling into a gale force downstream wind isn't much fun so called it a day. Beautiful, well maintained stretch, will be back before too long.

Came down to the river just after lunch and there were a few fish rising, but none taking my klinkhammers. As the afternoon wore on, the rises petered out. Otherwise a beautiful beat.
PS I could not find the catch return book at the camp site?

Rose a fish twice to a dry fly, no offers on nymphs, conditions seemed perfect but hardly any insect life or fish to be seen.
