We worked our way back down from the wood carpark to the first carpark, trying swims as we went, but didn't have a sniff until we got to the bottom end. We had barbel of 2 ish and 5 ish pounds + a 4Ib 6oz chub which looked like it could tell a tale or two. The river was pushing through a bit and 4 oz leads weren't holding for long. This beat seemed less snaggy than many and as scenic as most and we'll definitely be returning. I wouldn't recommend the track with a 2 wheel-drive car if it's wet and certainly don't attempt to drive to the top car park in muddy conditions. Luckily we were in the Hilux or might have still been there now!

Sunny day, river coloured and pulling through due to overnight rain. Fished in meadow at the dead tree swim. 1x chub. Getting caught up in downstream bush, so moved to an old swim upstream that hadn't been fished for years but old steps still cut in the bank. Managed to sit with chair in the water and caught barbel and chub. Later on, moved back down towards car park and caught barbel and chub. All Barbel 5 to 6lb, on hair rigged meat, straight lead. Did not try the wooded section.

I fished the top end of the meadow in the morning with just 1 chub, I moved back down to the first peg on the boundary by the gate & caught the rest there. A good afternoon. Caught on meat & krill boilies, feeding meat hemp & pellets.

Very enjoyable day on a new beat. Loads to go at, way too much in one day so will book again.
Opted for the deeper, slow water by the bottom car park and caught 6 barbel from 9 til 12. Slower in the afternoon but still a great day.

The one barbel about 4-5lb came from the first swim in the morning. Followed by a nice chub about 4lb. Bites were quite shy. Then we worked our way up to the woods at the top. Some lovely water up there but hard to access the best looking bits. The croy at the top was unproductive although some big fish rolled mid river. Leaves and debris made it difficult to hold bottom in the flow for very long. So we moved back towards the car park for dusk and had another nice chub just under 5lb, a smaller chub and an eel. Barbel on 12mm robin red boilie, chub and eel on trundled meat. Just managed to rally our way up the hill, suggest a 4x4 for this beat in the wet. And don't anger the pheasant!
