Fished for 20 minutes then broke my rod!

The Irfon was dropping after being in flood for a few days and although the river was high (0.77m on the Cilmery gauge) and pushing through, the clarity was good enough to fish. We had grayling to 1.75lb on nymphs and brown trout to 1.25lb on dries.

Great day, river was surprisingly fishable considering the rain last weekend. Will be returning.

water still rather high, but most of the beat was easily fishable. started off near the church but could only fish one very small area as it was a bit too deep and very fast. fished various spots along 3/4 of the beat ( 2 other anglers also fishing ) and picked up the odd fish hear and there, all on nymphs. grayling to 11" oos trout to 14" and 3 parr

Unfortunately with no rain for quite a few days river was really low and clear so blanked today but will be back as its a great stretch of river.

Very low and clear after several dry weeks. Of course the heavens opened the following day! A beautiful stretch with plenty of water to go at.

One 12” brown trout on weighted spider nymph, and two fry. Studs on my boots would have been useful.

It was my first time on this beat, and indeed on the Irfon. It's a long piece of water and alternates between gutters in woodland and more open sections through fields. Unfortunately, it was hot and very sunny and the water was low. While I tried for a salmon at the top of the beat, it was more in hope than expectation. I then explored the middle and then the lower section above the church for trout. Beautiful hot day but nothing was stirring, at least on the end of my line. I will be back though. Lovely beat.

Accomodation at Kilsby House was superb.
