Always thought todays fishing would be hard after the rain the night before but as this is 1 of my favourite beats I decided to give it a go.
On arriving I decided to fish the top of the beat as I’ve not spent much time there in the past. It was tough going first thing as the water was a chocolate browns but I persevered on. After a few hours the river clear a little and as I fished my way back down the beat I connected with the first fish. Not a monster by any means but a nice tug on the line. I then continued down and managed 2 reasonable trout from the slower water below the White House.
A great day that shows little prospect after the heavy rain yesterday evening.

Interesting, long beat. Lots of walking and different stretches/conditions. Was fishing this with a friend who caught more in the morning than in the evening. I caught more in the late afternoon and early evening myself. Bright, hot and sunny again.

First visit to Cefnllysgwynne and without my old pal A W (poor bloke is under pressure) his daughters wedding Saturday apparently he has been out mowing grass until 9 pm last last few nights!!
Fished from 1.30 till 7pm water was quit fast running and cloudy started mid beat with small nymph with a bit of flash and missed 5 first takes eventually netted a nice coloured 8" trout.
5pm jumped in car wader on boots still on and drove up to the parking by the church fish just below weir and caught 4 smallest trout and again missed as many!!
Great beat, very well maintained beautiful surroundings although quite testing getting around once in the water, seemed to be a lot of fish . I spoke to both the owner and fishery administrator who were both very helpful. I will be back soon when the river is a bit lower

It was windy and largely overcast and there was a healthy flow to the river. I had to work hard to catch two trout (8" and 12", both released), both on barbless cdc dries. I was lucky enough to see an otter and the blackberries were plentiful and delicious!

We haven’t fished Cefnllysgwynne for nearly two years. It’s a challenging beat with plenty of walking but can be rewarding in the right conditions.
The owners had strinmed a clear path through bank side vegetation …. Many thanks! We always enjoy the beat and today was no exception. There were a few rising fish but as usual a well presented fly in the right place would pull an unseen fish up. The river was a foot up but clear which meant a good flow through deeper pools … always a recipe for increasing the likelihood of fish taking a fly.
All the brown trout were solid muscular strong fish … well they have been fighting floods all summer! The best to hand were 14” but two much better ones and a big grayling managed to throw the hook… c’est la peche! It’s hard not to strike too early when you see a midget submarine rising from the depths to take your fly.
We were exhausted but happy when we came off the river at dusk. Charles came out for a chat as we drove away …. Great to say hello again and thanks for asking, we had a great day. 17 fish on parachute dries and plenty of wild life … not home until midnight but it didn’t seem to matter, reality had been suspended by a wonderful day on the river….

A little early. River was running high, but clearing nicely. A nil return, although I did bump a couple of fish on a swung March Brown. A few (one or two) fly came off the water around mid-day, but not enough to bring the fish up. A lovely beat, but I think it will be a few more weeks before things properly start to move.

We had booked 2 days at Cefnllysgwynne, river painfully low, found 4 fishable pools after covering full length of beat.
Managed one tiny Grayling and 4 out of season brownies from one pool midway along the beat.
Gin clear water but no chub sightings despite walking whole length with Polaroids.
Didn’t fish Cefnllysgwynne on the second day, moved onto the Wye where despite low levels managed to find some fine Grayling.
Stayed in the estate cottage which was great.
