A very bright, sunny day devoid of any cloud cover. Two of us fished the lower double bank section of the fishery but struggled to get to grips with it. Just one grayling each but that only tells part of the story. We had a wonderful time fishing a variety of water and always felt that success was just around the next corner. In truth, neither of us has much experience fishing this type of river and it showed! I would recommend this beat to anyone who simply loves a challenge.
Thanks as ever for the efficient, smooth running of the booking system.

1 Grayling pushing the 1lb mark. From speaking to two other anglers on the beat, the grayling seemed to be very spread out, possibly getting ready to spawn...

River in tip top condition; beautiful day but overnight frost meant fishing was hard. One nice grayling on french nymphing tactics. Big thankyou to Gareth for the tuition and the encouragement. Will be back, thank you WUF.

4 Grayling, 1 wbt and 1 rainbow. Grayling 1lb 4oz to 2lb exactly. A very enjoyable day, but the fishing was hard. We kicked off with a 2lb Grayling after 20 minutes at 7 o clock in the morning and thought it was going to be a bumper day. Unfortunately, maybe due to very clear water and intense sunlght, we only managed 5 more fish all day. 3 more Grayling between 1lb 4oz and 1lb 10oz and two very small trout, a rainbow and a brownie. We walked the whole section, wading into every good looking stretch, but the fiush seemed very spread out and every fish we saw was by itself. Great scenery and weather, proper fishing.

The river at the beginning of the session from the lake to the church was very coloured we later found out from an evironment agency officer that the river Wye was affected by it some 5 miles down stream and he was looking for the source of the pollution he said that it had been happenning every day since Tuesday but from midday the river had sorted it self out, what ever it was did not affect the fish.
Anyway the fishing (because of the above we could not fish near the church). We went further up stream the colour improved, up to midday we only had 1 fish between us on a trotted red maggot. Later in the afternoon we made our way down to the church where the river was in fine fettle, the colour had gone and the river was as it should be.
Between us we had 38 Grayling to about 2lb mainly on trotted red maggot. This was in a 2 1'2hr period. We will definitely be back.

First time on the Irfon and the beat lived up to my expectations being a classic Border river in a lovely setting. Arrived to find the water somewhat coloured which was surprising as there had been no rain. It transpired that the EA were just as bemused and were investigating as it wasn't an isolated incident. The river clarity soon improved but the fishing didn't. It was a hard slog for most of the day with 1 grayling at about 1 1/2lbs and a Graylet caught. At 3.30ish another rod trotting got into a shoal just upstream of the Church and caught plenty of fine fish. Using a Nymph in the shallow water there I had 4 or 5 fish around 12 inches. Great fun, only wish I'd started there earlier! I'd love to fish here in the Autumn and suspect the quality of fishing would be hard to surpass.
