River at 0.62 and falling slowly. Visibility at about 2'. Rod rings icing up (forgot the glycerine), I don't think the air temp got above freezing. Hard going today, fished from 9.30 till 2 and didn't find any fish until 1pm
1 cracking o.o.s. trout of 16" from a long glide thats usually productive, but nothing else. Eventually found some grayling in a spot right under my feet. Largest was 10", smallest 3".
Enjoyable day, the valley was picture postcard with frost.

River at 0.69 dropping on the Byton gauge. Pushing through at a fair pace, and carrying a bit of colour.
Trotting maggot resulted in 7 grayling between 8 and 12 inches, and a lovely conditioned o.o.s. trout at 12 inches.
Lost a few that threw the barbless hook in the fast water and also a very large trout that went airborne on being hooked.
Certainly seems to be a good head of fish here.

First time on this beat. Following the weekend's rain the river hadn't fallen back as mutch as I had anticipated when I booked - it was still at 0.73 on the Byton guage. I explored the whole stretch, but It was a struggle to find any decent swims for trotting where the river wasn't pushing through. Nothing caught, but it's a nice spot and I'll come back when conditions are more favourable.

First time on the Lugg, on a cool (6C) and overcast day, trotting red maggots on the centrepin. Only had one fish, a Grayling of around 8in, none the less a very welcome fish as my first ever Grayling having never targeted the species before. This was a short session tagged on to a visit to the amazing and highly recommended Riverside Inn with my partner to celebrate her Birthday weekend.

River showing 0.4 on the Byton gauge, slight rise overnight. Weather was overcast and misty but the rain stayed away.
Had 13 grayling between 4 and 12 inches and an absolute beauty at 15 inches.
Also lost 2 about the same size at the net and lost 3 other good fish due to hook pulls.

Another lovely day on my favourite little beat. The weather gods shone on me as this was the warmest day for weeks. No rising fish but a constant stream of takes from smallish grayling of around the 9 to 12 inch mark.

16 x grayling 6-16 inches, 1 x out of season trout 10 inches, trotting. One big grayling, but the majority in the 10-11 inch class, so a healthy population here I would say. Some sunny spells in the morning, but falling temperatures and rising winds in the afternoon seemed to slow down bites.

River running at a nice level and clear. Trotted red maggot and found it surprisingly tricky with a long rod tangling in the overhead branches, I would probably have done better with a fly rod and Euro nymphing from the bank. Nevertheless I caught some nice grayling and a couple of OOS trout.
