Went over hill to downstream below wood. River lower and slower pace from last month when we were there. Banks not so muddy or slippery. Could of done with a bit more water on the river. Fish caught on vortex cko and krill boilies. Taking the footpath from the corner of playing fields up over hill the better option this time. Tough day. But river came alive at dusk.

Fished in the field below “Heart attack” hill and very quickly lost a very good barbel that went on several long runs before unusually kiting into near bank trees and splashing around before snapping hook length off in the over hanging branches. Gutted!
Ended up moving couple of times with no joy then going back to original swim for the afternoon. A couple of barbel just under 6lb and 2 chub around 2.5-3lb slightly made up for the earlier lost barbel that felt much much bigger.
All fish caught on either dumbbells or 8mm pellets with ground bait feeder.
Watched kingfisher fishing and loads of long tailed tits before a late sparrowhawk swooped into the trees right next to me. Walked back over the hill in the dark to the sound of tawny owls all around.

Stretch never fails to deliver, fish wise. Swims could be made easier to access with some simple maintenance. Catch of the day by far, an 11lb barbel. Great day as usual.

Took the walk over the hill and found the river with good pace but the colour was dropping out. Fishing was slow but managed a few barbel. Hair rigged 8mm pellets were the most productive bait.
