Another superb day on the Wye. Chub first cast and then a steady stream continued to the net, averaging 3-4lb plus 1 barbel. Could only fish half a day due to other commitments so a fantastic morning.
It’s often repeated but to get acces to fisheries like this a big thank you to WUF as ever.

Started off at 7.30am in the nearest swim to the car park just before the bend. Had a couple of barbel on feeder/pellet before moving into the woods at around 10am. Fished the swim with the big Boulder as the water was much faster there. Started on the feeder and caught a few chub. Switched to the float for a few hours and caught plenty more chub. Most of them were around the 4lb mark but nothing any bigger. Couldn’t tempt a barbel on the float. It was quite snaggy there and lost a couple of feeders and hook links. Caught a barbel on the feeder before heading back to the swim by the car park for the evening. Caught barbel steadily from 6pm till around 9pm on feeder and pellet. Lovely beat as usual and was a lovely day. The walk to the woods is a bit of a killer if you have a bit of tackle/bait etc with you. However, it’s bearable and worth it as I think that’s where most of the fish are during the day due to the more oxygenated water. Will definitely be back.

Difficult day on a very low river

Did not fish weather incredibly hot and sunny river very low fish welfare in mind so decided not to fish.

Two anglers fished today; given the weather and river conditions we decided to fish early and late. Started at 6.00am and left when the first canoes appeared at 10.00am, and then fished again from 5.30pm until around 9.00pm. This proved to be a sound tactical decision but it did mean that we had to walk over the hill and back twice. From previous feedback I expected lots of chub but a lack of barbel - thankfully this wasn't really the case; fishing in the fast water we caught almost as many barbel as chub spread over morning and evening sessions. The biggest was the last fish - we thought it might make double figures but it fell a few ounces short. As always, a pleasure to be by the river with good company.
