Hard going, very low and cold, not fly active as such and found it difficult to locate any fish at all at first, but as the temperature rose managed 2 Grayling and 2 trout from the top section of the beat. Nothing bigger than half a pound

Didn’t arrive till 11 due to road closures. Was at this beat last week but had to leave early due to leaky waders so I needed to come back to make amends. Water very clear back down to somewhere near summer levels.

Caught fish steadily all day all along the beat. 15 Grayling up to 19 inches with 3 or 4 around that size. All solid fish and tough fight in the faster water! Three out of season brown trout also caught in very odd non trout-y places. One a nice 18”. All fish caught on a selection of different dry flies and all released safely. And no water in waders when finished...

Thanks.

Most of the fish were taken on dries kinks and cdc shuttle cocks. Fish were not as good an average size as other years still a lovely beat though.

First time on the Doldolwd beat, some lovely Grayling water with a decent gravel bottom between the bedrock.
Lots of grayling ranging from half a pound up to over 2lb, and some decent out of season brown trout.
There was a large hatch of olives between 1-2 oClock, dries took a fair few fish in the slower water whilst long line nymphing other parts of the day. Looking forward to booking again!

decided to try the top beat today(down from the bridge) first time i`ve fished this, very nice, mostly pocket water but not too fast and plenty of spots to run nymphs through. it looked a bit trouty and so it proved because the only grayling i managed to tempt were near the bridge in the deeper slower run. grayling to 14" and trout to 12".
many thanks to the WUF for a lovely 5 days on their waters over here in wales, even the weather was good,no rain, thats a first!

PB and JB had the pleasure of the company of DC and MP having extolled the virtues of this beat to them for a few years now! But it was touch and go – Llanstephan gauge was showing 2ft and turbid, but Rhyader was on 1ft 4inches and looked clear so off we went.
The river looked superb on a wonderful Autumn day and given the recent flush through even the bed was pristine – no blanketweed anywhere. Plenty of flow through though – we suspected the fish might not be in the usual places as they probably still had to reorientate themselves after the recent flood – and very little surface activity to be seen too, although a few large sedges emerging.
However the fish were there and would look to our flies – a total of 18 throughout the day, DC and MP started with New Zealand style but soon switched to dry only. Best grayling of 18” to JB and DC had an 18” OOS WBT.
A very creditable performance given we were not sure we would be able to fish 48 hours before!

river down about a foot from monday when I was here , but running very fast and crystal clear! all areas fishable except the top pool which i didn't risk. ( top of the bottom beat i mean) I expected to do really well today but struggled to find fish anywhere, just the odd one here and there. could be they are still a little messed up after the flood ? grayling to 12" trout to 16".

wasn't even sure if I should venture over to wales so soon after the floods at the weekend, but I`m glad I did because it was just fishable !. the ddol gauge was at about 0.9 so there were only a few spots I could even get into the water, it was quite coloured ( I could just see my boots in knee deep water) but I managed to catch a few including a nice fat grayling of 17". all fish caught on nymphs fished under an indicator close in.
