Certainly know autumn has arrived ! The river is obviously low and clear at the moment which is going to make it more difficult but at least some fish were caught. Promising to see streamer weed in the shallows albeit slightly stunted. The stretch itself has decent access to swims apart from the top field which is wasted. The parking is easy. Both barbel came late in the day/eve. I reckon the minnows are getting braver! Watch out for the wasps nests in the banks there’s a few! Would like to return when there’s more water on

Had decided to give the fishing a miss due to low clear conditions but noticed a (Very) slight rise on EA river level site so went for a shortened afternoon/evening session. Good move, fish came on the feed when light levels dropped and had a very enjoyable session. Barbel were all in the 3-5lb range but both the Chub were big ‘uns, both over 4lb. River was still very low though.

Having walked the whole stretch and noting how low and clear the water was I decided to fish from the bottom of the steps in the field below the church. I legered a boilie and regularly catapulted feed in the area where my bait was. I had nothing until after sunset when the light started to go.

Nothing, not even a bite and there were 3 of us. The river looks like a canal on this stretch

The river was extremely low and there were features showing that had not been seen in decades. The banks needed a great deal of care to get down to land a fish. A long landing net handle is necessary. All of the fish were caught in the deeper water. The swim upstream of the fence is productive but a rope is a must in my opinion, if you are not keen on getting your feet wet.

Always look forward to a day here but things were a bit slow today, probably due to the low river conditions, still a nice place to spend the day.All the Barbel were around 6-7 lbs and the Chub were a good size with a couple nearing 5 lb s,hoping to return here in more favourable conditions.
